**OASIS SHELTER COORDINATOR**
**Rate of Pay: $24-$28 hour**
**The OASIS Shelter Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Operations**
**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**Position Hours: 40 hours per week**
**Responsibilities**:
The OASIS Shelter Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, and overseeing the successful operation and development of the Shelter Diversion Program at Open Arms Resource Centre.
**Specific Duties**:
**Program Operations**
- Oversee and remain responsible for the optimal operation of OASIS. Ensuring that the program adheres to the critical principles of low-barrier, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based practice
- It is the responsibility of the Shelter Coordinator to continually review and update the policy and procedures documents.
- Ensure the adequate supply of food, cleaning, laundry, and personal care items for shelter guests.
- Overseeing the case management of guests, ensuring their individual plans are successful and moving forward.
- Remaining abreast of all client files, including incidents, and critical disclosures as well as take appropriate action in response.
**Staff Supervision and Support**
- Case Management: Lead and support staff in the development and implementation of guest plans.
- Creating a staff schedule, managing shift switch/pick up requests, managing the filling of open shifts, and responding promptly to sick calls or other call ins
- Maintaining documentation of staff absences, sickness, and/or booked time off
- Reviewing staff performance, responding to staff complaints and concerns, and managing staff disciplinary actions up to and including termination
- Ensure appropriate training for all new staff and ongoing training for current staff
- Organize and facilitate staff meetings when necessary
- Promote and enhance team functioning through support, coaching and conflict resolution
- Oversee appropriate systems for communication flow within and among the staff
- Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard all new staff members,
- Interview, onboard, and supervise all student placements and summer student employees, as well as communicate with higher-education staff overseeing said students
- Model a client-centered service delivery philosophy
**Community Connections**
- Maintain healthy working relationships with Community Partnering Agencies.
- Participate in the annual Annapolis Valley Homelessness Service-Based Count
- Participate in think-tanks, working groups, panel discussions, and other projects as they arise which focus on community development, community service enhancement, poverty reduction, and/or homelessness and housing insecurity
- Collaborate with community partners on shared cases through Coordinated Access.
- Work with the primary care team to provide physician appointments to shelter guests.
**Crisis and Emergency Management**
- Be the first line of response coordination in the event of emergencies which may include but are not limited to flood, fire, biological hazards, physical hazards, death, and/or severe injury
- Liaise with police and emergency services.
- Manage and oversee emergency procedures in the event of an infectious disease outbreak in coordination with Public Health
**Organizational Participation**
- The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for creating and submitting a monthly report to the Director of Operations which covers crucial operational information and statistics.
- The Shelter Coordinator is expected to participate in community events as a representative of Open Arms. If these occur outside of regular working hours, time can be taken in lieu.
**Education and Experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in Community Development or related field such as Community Studies, Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology. A college level education in Social Services or a related field may be accepted with a complement of related experience.
- Experience in the management of a multifaceted program including supervision of staff
- Experience in homelessness and housing security service provision
- Lived experience is an asset
- Commitment to community based social service and social justice
- Strong planning, decision-making, leadership and organizational skills
- Change management skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of diverse communities
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with other community-based organizations and with funders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
**Salary**: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
