**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Horticulturist**

**LOCATION**:Country Property 20 minutes West of Calgary

**REPORTING TO**: Property Manger

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The incumbent will work within a larger property team but will also be expected to work effectively and efficiently in an individual capacity. This role will work at minimum 40 hours per week with days and hours of work dependent on the tasks and responsibilities required. When able, the role will be primarily Monday to Friday however some weekend availability is necessary for the busy seasons (e.g. planting season and/or snow removal season).

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
This position works within a Grounds team and the Groundskeeper-Horticulturist’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Ensure adherence to holistic and sustainable practices
- Coordinate pest management activity with the use of no pesticides
- Coordinate weed management activity with the use of no herbicides
- Manage, operate and maintain greenhouse, prepare / grow plans
- Plan, execute and maintain edible gardens
- Plan plant order for each year based on budget and areas of improvement
- Design and execute landscaping projects
- Plant annuals and perennials when plant order arrives
- Weeding gardens as needed
- Create and maintain plant and tool inventory
- Ensuring all pots, urns and garden are watered for healthy growth
- Prepare budget and review with Property Manager and Grounds Lead;
- Provide landscaping services including turf maintenance, gardening, deadwood management, natural resource management, etc.
- Coordinate maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Maintain the database to track all maintenance of vehicles and equipment
- Purchase groundskeeping supplies and pick-up/delivery services when needed and as approved
- Assist with overseeing contractor activities, review contractor invoices and submit to Operations Manager
- Assist in maintaining and repairing of irrigation system
- Provide large amounts of snow removal services in the winter months, depending on weather, which includes shoveling and snow blowing, along with the use of a truck / tractor, as needed and requested
- Maintain clean grounds, shop and storage at all times
- Maintain constructive relationships with coworkers and
- All other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager/Grounds Supervisor

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
The Groundskeeper - Horticulturist must have:

- Horticulture experience or education
- Design experience is a plus
- Prior experience in landscaping, including drawing landscaping plans, snow removal, vehicle and equipment maintenance, irrigation system maintenance, and greenhouse operation
- Previous budget development experience
- Proficiency in operating equipment such as truck/trailers, mowers, and small machinery
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Availability to work on some weekends and holidays when required
- Reliable transportation and a clean driving record
- Strong communication skills, adaptability, and problem solving abilities while collaborating with team members and contractors
- Ability to work collaboratively on various grounds tasks

**Salary**: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
