Community Ministries Worker

The Intake Worker will assist individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army.
**HOURS**:
- 40 hours/week, 8:30-4:30 PM Monday-Friday
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Conducts initial intake assessments determining immediate needs and support needed by each client
- Partners with team and leadership to offer emotional & spiritual care, using every opportunity to share the love of Jesus with clients/families,
- Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals in determining an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process, facilitates effective problem-solving behavior of the client's family
- Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) In accordance with the policy
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records
- Assists in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the community ministries offices
- Receives and/or declines and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
- Sorts received donations, both food, and goods, and assembles food hampers and bagged lunches
- Responsible for the coordination of the bagged lunch program and food hampers
- Networks and refers to the Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, whenever necessary
- Represents the Salvation Army as an active member of the local task force and supports outreach opportunities and partnerships
- May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate
- May organize other seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas hamper, toy distribution, summer camps, community events, food drives, community dinners, emergency disaster services, etc.)
- Performs other job related duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:
- High school diploma
- Some post-secondary certification is an asset (social work, psychology, Community Social Service work)
- FoodSafe certification is an asset
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR
**Experience**:
- At least 2 years of prior related experience, including experience working with multi-barrier persons
- Experience in sorting food and goods
- Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
- Strong computer and interpersonal skills are an asset
- Required to repetitively lift/move up to 40 pounds
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions
- Possess a positive attitude and works well with other team members. Able to work cooperatively in a team setting with mínimal supervision
- Ability to engage with people from multiple socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
- Willing to work in a social services setting, assisting clients who may be experiencing homelessness, complex mental health and/or substance use challenges
- Employees are to show respect and dignity to fellow employees, clients, volunteers and members of the public.
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
