Pink Moon Cafe is hiring a baker

Looking for a fast, fun, friendly environment to work in? Pink Moon Cafe is a plant based food truck based out of the Comox Valley, and we are currently seeking a new team member in the role of a baker

This role could be suitable for someone with professional baking experience and training, or a confident home baker looking to put their skills into practice (as well a develop new, on-the-job skills -- training provided). Experience with vegan baking is not necessary, but definitely a bonus, as we use no dairy or eggs within our menu, as well as strive to offer at least one gluten-free baked good daily.

Pink Moon Cafe has a permanent location outside a local garden centre in Courtenay, but also occasionally relocates to attend local events. Our menu includes coffee, smoothies, vegan baked goods, veggie burgers, bowls, and snacks.

**Experience**:

- minimum 1 year experience in a customer service related job (required)
- minimum 1 year experience in a food service related job (preferred)
- minimum 1 year barista experience (preferred)
- minimum 1 year experience as a baker or within a bakery setting (preferred)
- experience working in a fast-paced kitchen (bonus)
- experience working in a food truck (super bonus)

Must have skills/characteristics:
1) Being able to work within a small space and utilise the equipment provided in innovative ways With that said, not only are organizational skills very important, but multitasking and time management, as you will need to schedule your morning to accomplish prep tasks within the time and space provided.

2) Being comfortable with not only baking, but preparing all menu items as ordered (veggie burgers, bowls, etc.), as well as executing a full coffee and drink menu as ordered (lattes, smoothies, etc.) Barista training will be provided.

3) Friendly / people person / customer service experience. Greeting customers with a smile, helping them navigate the menu... (we get a lot of questions throughout the day, especially as it is a fully vegan menu, with unfamiliar ingredients to most). Taking payments and confidently handling cash.

4) Being intuitive - there will be times you need to use strong judgement skills to make decisions on the spot, especially within a baker's role; working in a food truck means going with the flow/tackling new obstacles as they come... everyday is different

5) Being comfortable working solo as well as part of a team. A fair amount of the time you will be working solo (early mornings), but there are times when 1-2 other people will be working alongside you within the truck -- this requires a positive team attitude, as again, we accomplish a lot within a small space

6) Food preparation. Alongside the baking aspect, there will also be a fair amount of food prep involved in the role: chopping veggies, following recipes, preparing menu items from start to finish. You will be required to hold an up to date Food Safe certification. If you do not already have one, we can help you become certified (one day online course).

Bonus skills/characteristics:

- flexibility in schedule - being a food truck, having flexibility in your schedule will be beneficial all around; weekend availability is necessary, as needed
- intuitive culinary skills / recipe tasting and recipe development / menu planning
- social media skills / interest in basic promotional activities
- an interest in vegan food and baking -- the food truck is fully vegan, however, this is not by any means a requirement of the position... however, an interest and respect for plant-based eating is necessary

Pay is competitive/based on experience, and tips are an added bonus that make a big difference in your daily earnings. Perks also include daily staff meals and staff discounts. We are currently looking to bring one baker onto the team in a part time role, 5-20 hours per week (1-3 morning shifts), fluctuating based on our needs and your preferences.
