Telecommunications Technician

The Telecommunications Technician plans, configures, diagnoses & maintains end-user systems and networks. They utilize time and resources in an efficient manner and solves technical problems as needed. This position is responsible for installing and maintaining phone and data network cabling, phone systems, and peripherals.
Key duties:
- Installing, pulling, terminating, labeling and certifying both copper and fiber optic cables.
- Install, diagnose and repair voice (telephone) systems and networks and related peripherals.
- Diagnose and locate equipment faults and adjust, replace or repair.
- Understands PBX hardware, NEC, Toshiba, programming and troubleshooting.
- Install, diagnose and repair voice and network cabling.
- Mounting telecommunications equipment including routers and switches
- Installation and maintenance of phone and data networks, phone systems and telecom equipment.
- Assist in developing a comprehensive knowledge base (customer details, processes, procedures & best practices).
- Establish and maintain detailed notes for each customer site and service call.
- Remote telephone support.
- Comply with standard policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of and compliance with safety practices including but not limited to working at heights, fall protection and procedures.
- Real-time dispatching, updating of work orders, and closure of completed calls.
- Suggest areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions.
- Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
- Seek up-selling opportunities with existing clients for new equipment, network upgrades and service contracts.
- In-shop housekeeping: ensure personal and common work areas are stocked, cleaned and tidy.
- Learn new technologies and maintain working industry knowledge.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Proficiency with copper (cat6/6A) coax, low voltage cables, multi-pair Fiber
- Strong customer service skills
- Work collaboratively in a team environment as well as with mínimal supervision
- Broad problem-solving and analytical skills
- Normal colour vision to work with colour coded wiring
- Ability to balance physically demanding workload, which includes standing, lifting up to 75 lbs., climbing ladders, bending and possibly crawling in confined spaces both indoors and outdoors, moving office equipment.
- Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong technical aptitude and proficient knowledge of common consumer electronic devices
- Dedicated to continuous learning with ability to learn formally and informally in a dynamic environment
- Dependable and reliable
- Valid licence (G)
**Salary**: $37,000.00-$46,500.00 per year
