**SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLE WORKER**

**ABOUT US**
Stz’uminus First Nation (SFN) is a progressive community with a workforce of approximately 60
people, located in Ladysmith, British Columbia. Our Nation has 1,300 members with about half living
on our reserves. We are a rapidly growing Nation, offering our members a range of opportunities,
programs, and services.

**ABOUT THE POSITION**
This employee will work in partnership with the current Solid Waste and Recycle Worker to operate
the refuse packer truck to collect solid waste and use the recycling truck to collect recyclable items
from SFN residential and commercial sites.

**HOURS OF WORK & CLASSIFICATION**
30 hours per week. This is a permanent position.

**SALARY RANGE**
$42,495 to $60,707 annually.

**REPORTING & RELATIONSHIPS**
- The Solid Waste and Recycle Worker reports to the Public Works and Capital Projects

Coordinator.
**RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Remove and dispose of refuse and recyclables from all residential premises and other

designated locations.
- Operate a refuse packer and a recycling truck following a prescribed route;
- Empty vehicles at the CVRD transfer station/recycle depot as required.
- Address problems such as changes to route scheduling and complaints and report issues

to the supervisor for review.
- Transfer and compact refuse into the truck hopper by operating the side bucket.
- Work as part of the team to develop the solid waste and recycling collection program.
- Work independently to promote recycling in all areas of the community.
- Assist with the annual clean-up by assisting with bins and clean-up after bins.
- Explain refuse collection and recycling regulations to SFN members as required in a

friendly, professional manner.
- Perform pre-and post-trip inspections and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle as

required.
- Ensure performance and safety standards and schedules are met.

**EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION
- Must have a Valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5 or Class 7).
- Must be willing to provide a Driver’s abstract to prove a good driving record.
- WHMIS and First Aid training or ready to take as a job requirement.
- Successful Criminal Record Check.
- Knowledge of the truck and its parts and the basic maintenance requirements for safe

operation.
- Able to work in a confined space setting.
