**Policy Analyst, OLA**

As a member of the Office of the Executive Director, Administrative Services Division, in Toronto, ON, you will be responsible for examining the efficacy of existing Office of the Assembly policies and recommending and developing new policies that meet legislative requirements. In addition, the position will review, research and amend policy drafts and propose suggestions to improve the effects of existing policies ensuring a consistent format and compliance with legislation and laws.

**You'll act with integrity to**:

- Inclusive of all divisions, set up a review cycle and work with Directors and Executive Directors to develop and implement a review cycle to ensure currency and accuracy.
- Prepare reports for policy information status and project planning.
- Develop and support the delivery of a detailed implementation plan for new or revised policies and ensure websites are current with approved policies.

**You'll support our collaboration as you**:

- Draft key communication messages to update senior management on new, or changes to, policies.
- Develop appropriate communication of new or updated policies for dissemination to Assembly staff.
- Identify benefits, disadvantages, and omissions in existing policy frameworks and consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure inclusion of relevant factors. Propose suggestions to improve the effects of policies.
- Conduct research into assigned area taking into account developments within the particular field, Assembly policies and practices, and legislation.
- Contribute to analysis on policy stakeholder teams.
- Draft new policies or amendments to policies for branch stakeholder and senior management review ensuring the proposed or updated policy meets legal and legislative requirements.
- Review and edit existing policies and procedures after researching legislation preparing recommendations, options, and research for management.

- Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy and Administration or Communications or a related field with a preferred Master's degree.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience such as research, analysis, development or coordination of policy development and technical writing.
- Experience with the ability to determine policy oversights and omissions and the ability to recommend new policies or amendments and prepare draft versions.
- Developed conceptual and problem solving skills to analyze issues and develop solutions to policy development.
- In-depth knowledge of legal considerations relevant to policies.
- Advanced knowledge of conventions and standards in policy writing.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in policy analysis, planning and development preferably in a public setting or large organization.
- Exceptional research skills and the ability to extract pertinent information into a concise operational policy that can withstand legal scrutiny if necessary.
- Proficient written communication. The ability to distill complex information into appropriate and concise policy. Attention to detail is essential. Excellent communication skills with particular emphasis on report writing, drafting recommendations, correspondence and presentations suitable to target audiences.
