The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to learning, equity, engagement and innovation. Reporting to the Specialized Services System Principal, Intervention: Reading and Writing, the Speech and Language Pathologist will have the skills and perform the duties as per below.

**Skills and Experience**:

- Current member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
- Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Relevant experience in working successfully with students and in supporting staff in understanding and addressing concerns associated with speech and language development
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education documents, eg.. Kindergarten Program
- Knowledge of evidence-informed practices
- Experience in assessment of speech and language skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design and implementation of speech and language programming
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with HWDSB colleagues, parents, and community partners, to provide evidence-based services to assist students with speech and language challenges to reach their full potential
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to effectively deliver professional development in-services at the school and system level
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and facilitation skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- A demonstrated commitment to professional learning and development
- Ability to travel to support schools across the HWDSB
- Work as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team comprised of educators, communicative disorders assistants
- Assist with problem-solving and developing appropriate communication programming for students with speech and language delays
- Work collaboratively with parents, community partners, and HWDSB colleagues to provide evidence-based services to assist students
- Provide a full range of assessments and interventions/strategies to identify and support lagging skills in communication
- Supervise Communicative Disorders Assistants
- Assist in determining the appropriateness of and/or complete referrals to the Hamilton Health Sciences School Based Rehab Services (SBRS), monitoring those referrals made;
- Provide direct modeling for teachers and other staff regarding the implementation of recommended strategies to optimize student success in communication, social, and academic skill development;
- Provide a range of professional development and job embedded training opportunities designed to increase the capacity of school staff and other professional to support the learning of students
- Actively contribute to the Speech and Language Services Team operations and initiatives
- Document student supports and services provided as per CASLPO guidelines, providing summary reports as required;
- Ensure that professional standards of practice are met with respect to current research and emerging knowledge in the field of Speech-Language Pathology;
- Continue to enhance one’s knowledge and skills within the field of Speech and Language Pathology
- Perform, other duties as assigned by the Specialized Services System Principal, Intervention: Reading and Writing
