**Hours of work**: 15-29.75 hours
- **Hours of support mainly fall within Monday to Friday, between 8am to 4pm. Weekday availability required.**_

- **Travel is required to support our participants (clients) within the Niagara Region (St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland). Access to a vehicle is highly preferred.**_

**Reporting to**: Program Manager

Reporting to the Program Manager, the COSS Rehabilitation Counsellor is responsible for promoting the rights of participants residing within the Niagara with an acquired brain injury by facilitating independence and empowerment, enhancing quality of life, and implementing program activities as required, and in accordance with the Agency’s mission and the philosophy of the program.

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Provide support to participants which may include assisting participants complete their routines in accordance with their Individual Support Plan, attendant care duties such as toileting, changing briefs, addressing participant concerns, feeding participants etc.
- Assist with ongoing program development, assessment and evaluation of the participant’s ISP by identifying and communicating changes i.e. behaviour, routine, or progress, to the RB Designate.
- Assist and participate in activities with participants; swimming, drop-in day programs, volunteer opportunities, and scheduled rehabilitation activities.
- Provide respite care to families.
- Provide supportive counselling by promoting participation in social functions, arranging transportation, identifying inappropriate behaviour and redirecting participants to alternative action.
- In emergency situations or fire drills, required to assist in the evacuation of participants and carry out duties as per the Emergency Response Plan.
- Responsible for maintaining a high level of job knowledge, skill, work habits, and professionalism by attending team meetings, mandatory training refreshers, participating in education seminars, conferences, and workshops.

**Qualification Requirements**:

- Post-secondary education in relevant field such as human services, psychology, social work or a related field.
- Preference of one (1) year of work experience in social services and experienced with direct community outreach support.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR.
- Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
- Vehicle required, due to travel and support requirements.

**Knowledge & Skill Requirements**:

- Computer literate and effective working skills with Agency software.
- High degree of resourcefulness, problem solving abilities, accountability and dependability.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position and develop an excellent rapport with participants and co-workers.
