Director, Trust Accounting

The Director of Trust Accounting, Benefit Solutions contributes to the success of Benefit Solutions and People Corporation by ensuring that an exceptional client experience is delivered during every interaction, through one optimized integrated servicing network using a digital-first approach.
The Director will lead a team of trust accountants with objectives of regular and timely reconciliations, leveraging best practices where possible. They will look to maintain or enhance current financial controls and ensure compliance with all legal and client obligations. They will lead a team tasked with identifying any risks or trending to our stakeholders, resolving any complex issues escalated from team members. The Director will also serve as the liaison for audit and tax preparation with accounting firms.
They will build a team that people want to be a part of, and that becomes a top talent growth engine for the company. Their focus will be to elevate cthe member’s digital experience by continuously communicating member expectations to position the organization as a leader in the marketplace.
This role will actively contribute to the growth of the Benefit Solutions division through delivering on shared service expectations and addressing and solving real-time business challenges.
**The Director of Trust Accounting will**:
- Deliver unrivaled client/member service: Model a client/member first mindset and challenge others to evaluate their decisions and actions against how it will impact our clients.
- Establish or redesign standardized targeted performance metrics and Service Level Agreements for key Trust Accounting activities.
- Develop remediation plan(s) to ensure SLAs are consistently met, and deliverables meet all regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Inventory all Trust Accounting deliverables, processes, and performance gaps while developing a plan to improve and standardize operations
- Demonstrate business acumen:
- Make strategic decisions, based in data, that are aligned with stated objectives.
- Adapts leadership style to match the situation, ready to ‘get their hands dirty’ as required
- Convey a clear vision of what success for their teams looks like and is laser-focused on achieving this success.
- Lead change management: Create a culture of continuous improvement, remaining flexible and pivoting strategies and objectives as needed. Considers change as part of the journey that ultimately moves the organization forward
- Practice learning and development: Enables and facilitates learning by recognition, to achieve long-term growth that people must continuously improve.
- Demonstrate communication, collaboration and influence: Creates opportunities to work with colleagues across the organization to work together on improved client and member solutions.
**To be successful as the Director of Trust Accounting, you will have**:
- A university degree or college diploma in business, accounting, finance, or a related field
- Successful completion of CPA/CA designation
- Seven to ten (10) years’ experience in an Accounting leadership role, ideally in the group insurance industry.
- Exceptional leadership capabilities, including managing dispersed and/or complex teams and a positive track record of influencing for results.
- Proven people leader with high EQ. Demonstrated abilities relating to coaching, mentorship and the development of a learning & development mindset amongst teams.
- Change agent, experienced in leading teams to overcome obstacles and drive change.
