We are currently hiring a **Temporary** **Full-Time Day Program Instructor, Team Leader.** This position reports to the Program Manager and is currently assigned to work in the Toronto, Ontario (Don Valley Parkway and Lawrence Avenue) and Toronto, Ontario (Broadview Avenue and O'Connor Drive) area. This is a full-time position that works 40 hours per week, currently scheduled Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, flexible to meet program needs.

This position is currently a temporary 6 month contract, with the possibility of extension or early expiration based upon program needs. Appropriate consideration and notice will be provided per the Employment Standards Act, 2000

This position also requires someone who has a passion for and takes initiative in the creation and implementation of programming. The capacity to work collaboratively within a team is required, as well as with a large number of stakeholders including healthcare professionals, consultants, colleagues, community members, family members and friends. This position also requires a resilient direct support professional who is confident in navigating conflict, overcoming obstacles, and who is creative in providing support to individuals in crisis.

The Day Program Instructor with caseload, Team Leader provides support to program participants within established policies and procedures including: Employment Standards, Salvation Army Accreditation, and Services & Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**PROGRAM**
- Know and respond to safety and health care needs of residents/participants
- Act as a role model for all residents/participants as reflected by appearance, behaviour, and attitude
- Perform Prime Worker/Caseload duties as assigned by Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor
- Provide support for resident’s/participant’s personal development as decided through Individual Support Planning
- Administer medication as prescribed and according to policies and procedures
- Maintain pertinent resident/participant records
- Support family involvement with residents/participants, site activities and special events
- Liaise with transportation companies, day program staff, group home staff, other professionals, families, etc.
- Ensure learning opportunities are provided using agency and community resources
- All other duties as assigned

**STAFF**
- Maintain effective communication.
- Assist in orientation as directed by Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor. Provide support and guidance to coworkers, placement students, volunteers, and/or external agency staff
- Represent the site on committees and at other meetings as delegated by the Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor
- Attend and participate in meetings and staff development training at the discretion of the Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor and Administration
- All other duties as assigned

**ADMINISTRATIVE**
- Assist in completion of staff pay sheets/Ulti-Pro as assigned by Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor
- Assist in recording vacation and sick accruals/use as assigned by Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor
- Ensure household/program inventory is maintained in consultation with the Residential/Day Program Manager/Supervisor
- All other duties as assigned

**ORGANIZATIONAL**
- Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army and Broadview Village
- Be familiar with and adhere to Salvation Army policies and procedures
- Comply with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations
- Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of all relevant legislation associated with the program and keep ethical and legal responsibilities with individuals we support, and others associated with the agency
- Complete daily walkthroughs/inspections of site as assigned and report accidents/injuries/workplace hazards in a timely manner
- As required and is applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to management
- Represent the organization in a professional manner
- All other duties as assigned

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste
- Noise
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Handling garbage
- Verbal abuse
- Odours

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Completed 3-year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or other equivalent degree/diploma related to human services
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR, Level C
- Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire
- It is an expectation of the role to be certified in Standard First Aid/ CPR and NCI and use it in practice on a regular basis
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, an asset
