**Hours of work**:45 hours bi-weekly

**2021 OPSEU Salary Range**:$21.43 to $25.53 per hour

**Qualifications**:
**Education, Certification & Licenses**:

- A post-secondary diploma or degree with emphasis on rehabilitation such as; Physiotherapy Assistant, Kinesiology, Nutrition and Lifestyle Promotion, Athletic Therapy, Rehabilitation Services, Rehabilitation Science, Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required.

**Knowledge and Experience**:

- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in geriatric rehabilitation or Long Term Care
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology in all activities of daily living.
- Knowledge of and experience implementing restorative rehabilitation techniques and interventions that restore an elderly person’s baseline or desired level of functioning to promote general well-being.
- Experience in developing exercise routines.
- Knowledge of how chronic pain effects quality of life.
- Experience incorporating fall prevention strategies.
- Knowledge and ability to assess an individual’s functional rehabilitation potential.
- Knowledge of assistive devices.
- Knowledge of the Cognitive Performance Scale, Activity of Daily Living score, Aggressive Behaviours Scale, and Depression Rating Scores.
- An understanding of how rehabilitation services effect the funding model in Long Term Care, specifically RUG and CMI scores.
- Best Practice Champion and/or experience in quality initiatives is considered an asset.

- Medical documentation experience with written reports and clinical evaluations.
- Computer literate in relevant technologies including working knowledge of MS Office, LTC documentation systems e.g. Point Click Care, Point of Care and will be required to learn new technologies and tools as they evolve.

The Restorative Aide is expected to achieve the following competencies:

- **Teamwork**: Works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team as well as coaches and mentors relevant departments in carrying out restorative techniques to enhance resident independence within the activities of daily living. Demonstrates commitment to a healthy workplace culture and professional work attitude in all interactions with internal and external contacts. Communicates openly, respectfully and professionally with the team and can be counted on to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team. - **Analytical and Problem Solving**: Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. Possesses an aptitude for timely and creative problem solving. When problems occur; defines the problem, investigates obstacles, gathers relevant information, acts when appropriate or decides whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generates and analyzes alternate solutions, arrives at a workable solution, implements then evaluates the outcome. This differs from those who are not proactive, typically get surprised when problems occur, attempt to solve problems with the wrong people involved, push too quickly for solutions or generate solutions that are not viable.
- **Communication**: Communicates effectively, appropriately and professionally with the health care team members in a multi-disciplinary fashion within the home. Actively listens to co workers expressing concerns regarding nursing restorative programs, solicits feedback and adapts communication to others. Uses good judgement when identifying what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to accomplish the task. Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.. Regularly deals with matters of a confidential nature, within and/or outside the organization.
