In this position as a Fisheries Biologist, you will be responsible for performing fish and fish habitat assessments, leading QAES assessments throughout Alberta, instream construction monitoring; fish salvage and rescue; Fish habitat and population monitoring; Stream Classification; species at risk surveys, collecting field data and samples; monitoring construction sites for impacts on the aquatic environment, compiling data, and preparing reports. Reporting duties may include, QAES reporting, Fish and fish habitat reports, and DFO Request for Reviews.

**Specifically, you will**
- Support or lead aquatic field work and assessments involving fish populations, fish salvage, benthic invertebrate communities, as well as water and sediment chemistry.
- Provide biological monitoring and oversight for construction projects, restoration and reclamation implementation and maintenance.
- Research regional specific natural resources, survey requirements, and reporting needs.
- Prepare technical reports documenting field investigations and analytical results.
- Analyze and interpret collected field data.
- Complete provincial loadform data submission for wildlife and fish survey inventories.
- Write QAES reports and provide recommendations on watercourse crossing designs and how they impact fish passage and fish habitat.
- Writing and completing DFO Request for Reviews.
- Act as technical lead on fisheries related projects. This will involve managing field crews of 2-5 people.
- Help to design fisheries and water quality monitoring programs through western Canada.

**Qualifications Requirements**
- Registration with the College of Applied Biology (RPBio) and the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (PBiol)
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Wildlife, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Reclamation, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in aquatic ecology consulting in Canada with Electrofishing Certification
- Th The ability to summarize and interpret collected fisheries, wildlife, and vegetation data.
- The ability to work long days in a field setting (12hrs)
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and how it relates to aquatic environments including AER, EPA, BCER, and DFO.
- Field experience with ability to travel to job sites in remote locations including shift work which may include evenings and/or weekends.
- Work outside in adverse weather conditions
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail; Excellent communication and technical writing skills, and
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license (driving abstract required)
- Participate in and adhere to, corporate and client safety program

**Salary**: $34.00-$45.00 per hour
