The Penticton Indian Band is a First Nations government in the Canadian province of British Columbia, located next to the city of Penticton in the Okanagan Valley. The Penticton Indian Band community members have declared that the Nation is the proper title and rights holders of the whole of the Okanagan territory. As Okanagan people, we have a collective right and responsibility to protect and manage our land, our people, our culture (which includes language) and our spirituality.

**Job Summary**:
Under the direct supervision of the PIB Infant Development Consultant, the PIB Infant Development Program Assistant will provide support to the PIB Infant Development programs and services, which must incorporate Okanagan culture and language into all relevant program areas for eligible children and their families. The PIB Infant Development Assistant will collaborate with the PIB IDP Consultant to ensure programs and services meet the needs of the growing infant/child and meet the needs of the program guidelines. The IDP Assistant will work with the IDP Consultant in all facets of the PIB IDP program, which include home visiting, centre-based programs, program development and administrative duties. The PIB IDP Assistant is expected to uphold, to the highest standard, all files and documentation to ensure confidentiality, privacy and security are maintained at all times.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- To assist in all aspects of the PIB IDP programs and services that are offered to community, including safety guidelines
- To support and ensure Okanagan culture and language are incorporated into the relevant programs and services
- To encourage families to complete the universal screening tool (ASQ/ASQE)
- To assist in the creation of a positive learning environment while upholding the program guidelines
- To assist in IDP administrative tasks such as planning, creating flyers or promotional materials, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. To collaborate with appropriate PIB Health staff and other health care providers to ensure continuity of care
- To assist with collaborative programing with other nation communities
- To assist with program related transportation needs
- Perform other duties as assigned, including support to other PIB Health related programs and services
- To maintain positive communication with co-workers, supervisor, manager, and clients at all times

**Minimum Academic/Educational Requirements**:

- Grade 12
- Certificate and/or diploma in Early Childhood Education and/or Aboriginal Early Childhood Education.
- Experience working as a childhood educator, preferably in a First Nation community

**Other Certification, Licenses, Designations and/or Training**:

- Group Facilitation training
- Reliable vehicle
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with driver’s abstract is required
- Valid CPR and First Aid certificate
- Willingness to receive training
- Willing to undergo a Criminal Record Check that will include Vulnerable Sector Check

**Minimum Level of Experience**:

- Experience in or working with First Nations communities
- Knowledge of the Okanagan culture and language

**Assets**:

- The interpersonal skills required to work with well with others
- Familiar with Okanagan Nation culture and traditions.
- Indigenous Ancestry preferred
- Experience in working with Indigenous Band or organization
- Willingness to under training as needed
- Ability to be flexible in availability to work (evenings or weekends) to meet the needs of PIB Health programs and services

**Working Conditions**:

- All work is done at the PIB Snxastwilxtn Centre or on a home visit basis.
