**A day in the life...**
- Collecting data to answer diverse ecological questions by developing study designs and implementing field programs in freshwater aquatic settings (i.e., environmental monitoring/ management activities, fish and fish habitat assessments, fish salvage, water quality, benthic invertebrates, sediment, wetland vegetation surveys) for various types of projects including power, mines, infrastructure, and oil and gas;
- Generating specialized technical reports to meet the unique needs of clients. Examples include quantitative fisheries and water quality studies;
- Preparing environmental assessments and developing strategies to mitigate potential impacts to environmental resources;
- Writing environmental management and protection plans, environmental effects assessments and effectiveness monitoring plans, and habitat offsetting plans;
- Collaborating with industry, government, non-government organizations, and First Nations to achieve satisfactory environmental outcomes for development projects;
- Contributing to proposals and business development activities in procuring project work with our clients;
- Interacting with clients, staff and regulatory agencies;
- Promoting health and safety in the workplace;
- Delivering high quality, well-written reports on time and within budget, drawing upon technical and scientific knowledge, training and experience;
- Managing small to medium-sized projects, communicating with clients and reporting to senior staff;
- Working within a team environment and communicating effectively with all levels of staff; and
- Being involved in field work, travel and other duties as assigned/required.

**What you'll bring to WSP...**

- An undergraduate or graduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Ecological Restoration or other relevant natural resource management related field;
- 5+ years of experience working as an applied biologist;
- Specialization in either aquatics or fisheries;
- Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or BIT (Biologist in Training) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment;
- Strong commitment to health and safety;
- Demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience with environmental assessment, effects monitoring programs, and/or special research studies in applied ecology;
- Experience in field assessments and data collection requirements for ecological sciences;
- Willingness to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations and outside standard office hours;
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation;
- Ability to work independently but also thrive in an atmosphere that requires cooperation and teamwork to provide quality, solution-oriented consulting services;
- Experience with project management;
- Electrofishing certification is an asset;
- Boat operator experience is an asset;
- Demonstrated field skills and ability to manage complex programs involving substantial ecological data; and
- A valid Class-5 or higher driver’s license.

**Compensation**

Expected Salary (all locations): $72 600 - $123 400

WSP Canada is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it will pay for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to the specific geographic location.
