**Overview**:
The Kenora Justice Center Mental Health Support Worker is responsible to the Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Mental Health Association Kenora Branch. The Kenora Justice Center Mental Health Support Worker works with the Kenora Justice Centre to support wrap-around services for accused persons participating in the Kenora Justice Centre who are identified as having a developmental disability or mental health issue who quality for the community court. The goal of Kenora Justice Centre is to reduce recidivism using restorative and community-based justice processes that include a focus on health and wellness supports. The Kenora Justice Center Mental Health Support Worker is expected to work as a member of a team and is expected to participate in regular peer supervision in coordination with the Court Team at the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch regular supervision with the Chief Executive Officer as well as other team meetings identified through the Kenora Justice Centre.

**Qualifications**:
Degree in social work or demonstrated equivalent, MSW preferred, Regulated through the OCSWSSW

In depth knowledge of the criminal justice system and the Mental Health Act obtained through academic training or practical experience

Knowledge of mental health/mental illness, and mental health difficulties

Knowledge of developmental disabilities, FASD, acquired Brain Injury etc.

Highly developed screening, assessment skills

Highly developed advocacy skills

Working knowledge of community resources, and agencies

Ability to build community linkages and networks to ensure planning and delivery of individualized services Competence for diverse populations

Ability to work independently

Computer literacy and recording skills

**Duties**:

- Adherence to all policies of Canadian Mental Health Association Kenora Branch
- Assurance of confidentiality of all clients, personnel, and organizational records and information
- Accept and track referrals from the Circle of Care Case Manager/and or the Community Circle of Care Senior Coordinator of the Kenora Justice Centre participants who have or are suspected to have a developmental disability or mental health diagnoses
- Provide court diversion or court support services to those accepted referrals from the Kenora Justice Center
- Attend court proceedings at the Kenora Justice Centre as identified by the Chief Executive Officer in partnership with the Kenora Justice Centre
- Liaison with criminal justice system personnel and ensure that clients within the program have received legal advice in a supportive manner with due consideration of their accommodation needs depending on their diagnoses
- Liaison with community resources and partners passed on client needs and establish a collaborative relationship with the Circle of Care Case Managers in order to provide support and recommendations to develop recovery plans for the clients
- Development and monitoring of appropriate service plans for diversion, treatment, court support and/or release for those involved within the program
- Communicate progress of clients within the program to the Kenora Justice Center and the court
- Consult, advocate with criminal justice system, community mental health/ developmental services systems custodial facilities and family members.
- Collaborate extensively with local, district and regional developmental service providers.
- Collaborate with providers to provide culturally relevant programming and services to clients of the program
- Ongoing assessment of risk for clients involved within the program
- Provide supportive counselling and assistance to clients in understanding the Criminal Justice System and justice process
- Advocacy and navigation within the forensic mental health system; i.e the Regional Forensic Unit, District and Regional HSJCCs, Ontario Review Board etc.
- Provide education for client, family and community
- Act as a mental health resource to criminal justice officials, custodial facilities and family members
