**Employee Job Description**

**POSITION TITLE**:Kids’ Pastor
**POSITION STATUS**:Permanent Part-Time; 20 hours per week.
**COMPENSATION**: Starting at $25.00/hr, bi-weekly pay period

**POSITION PURPOSE**:
Partnering with and equipping young families, the Kids Pastor will work to create intentional space for spiritual formation in the lives of children at Hillside Church as it grows to become a community of fully-equipped and empowered followers of Jesus, bringing His healing, hope and compassion to the Tri-Cities and beyond.

**PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS**:

- Has a mature and growing relationship with Jesus, a love for His church and who understands the only hope of humanity as resting solely in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
- Proven character appropriate to Christian leadership.
- Agrees enthusiastically with Hillside’s _Statement of Faith_.
- Gifted in leadership and team development, and able to responsibly delegate and empower others.
- A hospitable personality with a capacity to relate well to children, parents, and volunteers of all ages.

**SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Theologically proficient; while a formal theological education is not required (though it would be an asset), this position requires a person who is able to thoughtfully and carefully engage with Scripture, and articulate its implications clearly.
- Conscientious and diligent around protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults, and able to stay informed of best-practices for care.
- Administratively independent: able to develop effective systems and processes. Some degree of competence with technology and basic computer programs is expected.
- Able to provide qualified references and a clear criminal record background check, which includes a vulnerable sector check.

**AREAS OF GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY**:

- Oversee all aspects of Children’s Ministries at Hillside Church, developing key leaders in each area, including:

- Volunteer Leaders
- Parent and Family Support
- Children’s programming
- Community events from time to time

**AREAS OF SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY**
(Listed by Percentage of a total 20 hours per week; approximate number of hours are in parentheses)

**75% (15) Hillside Kids**:

- Sundays_
- Thoughtfully manage weekly Sunday morning children’s programming.
- Oversee Sunday-morning nursery and infant-care.
- Prepare and tailor curriculum for Sunday mornings, ensuring the theological content of teaching and activities are engaging, age-appropriate, and in line with Hillside’s theological convictions.
- Ensure that processes for check-in and annual registration are maintained, efficient, and accessible.
- Families_
- Provide resources to parents for at-home discipleship, and create spaces for parents to learn how to participate in their children’s spiritual formation.
- Meet and connect individually with families from Hillside.
- Volunteers_
- Recruit, train, and develop a volunteer team.
- Organize and schedule volunteers in a clear and timely manner.
- Ensure that all volunteers maintain the behaviour and credentials required for work with children as described by Hillside’s policies.
- Church Health_
- When possible, connect with other local churches for support and collaboration.
- Work with the Youth Pastor to create an integrated discipleship strategy for 0-18 year olds, working toward prescribed learning outcomes and a repeatable discipleship process.
- Work with Lead Pastor and Worship Pastor to creatively incorporate Kids’ ministry into the life of the church and the Sunday morning worship service.

**10% (2) Staff Participation**
- Attend weekly (1 hour) staff meetings.
- Attend regular extended staff planning meetings.
- Prepare annual reports to the AGM and to the elders from time to time.
- Prepare and keep to an annual budget and file monthly expense reports.

**10% (2) Personal Development**
- Study, training, mentorship, and prayer

**5% (1) Incidental Pastoral Responsibilities**
- Care, counselling, and visitation as needs arise
- Administration of ordinances of baptism and communion as requested

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: From $25.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Coquitlam, BC V3K 3P6: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:

- working with children (ages 0-12) in a Christian context (preferred)
