We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, highly organized, driven and experienced Press Secretary to support the Speaker of the Senate in a broad range of communications activities. The role includes a variety of tasks including planning and managing the Speaker’s social media presence, assisting with the Speaker’s occasional communications internal to the Senate community, planning for and assisting with the production of occasional video messages from the Speaker, responding to media inquiries and coordinating with other entities such as the Senate Communications Directorate, and communications staff in other senior government entities.

**Open to**:
The general public, to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position.

Please note that “indeterminate” refers to an employment contract with no specified end date.

**Prerequisites**:

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or a field related to the position and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the communications or public relations field dealing directly with reporters/media;
- Experience with social media platforms on behalf of an organization/association/institution;
- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with senior officials and/or parliamentarians and/or stakeholders;
- Extensive experience in using the MS-Office suite;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both official languages;
- Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, methods and industry best practices pertaining to communications, media and journalism;
- Strategic and organized thinker with the ability to coordinate and multi-task to accomplish a variety of activities with tight timelines;
- Knowledge of Parliament and the Canadian political landscape is considered an asset.
