**TUGBOAT CAPTAIN / MATE - Job description**

Since 1971, Catherwood Towing Ltd. has been providing comprehensive tug and barge services on the Fraser River and along the Pacific Northwest Coast for general freight, log boom towing, booming, marine construction towing and tending, custom tug and towing services, and boom storage. All of our services follow environmentally friendly practices and are performed by our diverse crew members who have extensive experience in handling all kinds of jobs with fast response times and high attention to detail.

Catherwood Towing is looking for 60-to-150-ton Tug Captains & Mates who are seeking a challenging, long-term career opportunity with a progressive Marine Employer.

**Responsibilities.**

Safe and efficient operation of the vessel and support equipment.

Implementing the safety and environmental policy of the Company, motivating the crew in the execution of that policy, issuing orders in a clear and concise manner and reviewing safety and pollution prevention activities.
Reporting defects to the Company and other matters with implications for safe operations or pollution risk and which require the assistance of the Company.
Appraising and coordinating on-board training requirements with the Company.
Ensuring that all safety information is kept in date and available to all members of the crew at all times.
Review of on-board contingency plans and ship procedures and reporting any deficiencies to the company.
Reporting non-conformities, accidents involving personnel or plant and hazardous situations to the Company.
Requesting assistance from the Company as may be deemed necessary to ensure safe and pollution free operation of the ship.
Provide employee scheduling information to the crew.

**Qualifications/Requirements**:
60 to 150 ton valid Canadian Masters and/or Mates Certificate
Medical fitness certificate issued by Transport Canada.
3 - 5 years minimum experience required.

Ability to operate lifeboats and rescue boats.

MED Advanced firefighting.

VHF Restricted Operator’s Certificate - Commercial Maritime (ROC)

Certificate of marine basic first aid training at sea.

Valid driver’s license (class 5) and Canadian Passport.

Professional, team player who is safety oriented
Organized and enjoys working in a challenging environment
Must be a Canadian citizen - preference will be given to those who reside in the Metro Vancouver Region.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $54.43-$59.56 per hour

Expected hours: 72 - 84 per week
