Operator lll
The Operator lll is the advanced working level in the Operator l, ll and lll Series. This position is distinguished from the Operator I and II by the performance of more complex tasks, duties and the qualifications and skills required such as: finish grader and excavator operations, road oiling, minor road rebuilding, maintaining appropriate crown and road edge, and winter snowplow and grader operations. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Heavy Equipment of the road rehabilitation and maintenance activities.
Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, the Operator works independently and/or with a crew engaged in the maintenance of the County’s roads (paved or gravel) and assets (bridges, drainage ditches and signs).
Must work effectively and efficiently with others and alone with little or no supervision, always be punctual, communicate openly, takes direction well, and responds to public inquiries in a calm and friendly manner.
Demonstrate a high level of work performance and initiative. Capable of and may be expected to operate several pieces of heavy-duty equipment. Exhibit knowledge, initiative, and good judgment in loading, tarping, and tying, hauling, and unloading all types and sizes of materials, supplies, machines, and equipment. Exhibit initiative and responsibility as well as an understanding of the capabilities of the machine being operated. Knowledge, skill, and ability to operate equipment safely and be able to avoid accidents. Exhibit the knowledge and ability in the maintenance and servicing of the equipment or vehicle.
Work is performed at various outdoor work sites within the county and may be performed in extreme temperatures or high levels of noise. Physical job requirements: May require lifting and carrying of up to 23kg, shovelling, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, and fumes, and working near equipment. Complete other duties as required by supervisor. Availability to work overtime when required.
Experience with the operations of the Finishing Grader, Excavator, and Loader - Mounted Snow Blower would be considered an asset.
Acceptable Commercial Driver’s Abstract.
Valid Class 1 Operator license Air Brake (Q) Endorsement.
Defensive Driving.
Ground Disturbance Safety Training Level 1.
Standard First Aid and CPR.
Willing to obtain or already hold safety training in the following areas: National Safety Codes, Pre-trip Inspection, Flag Person Training Course, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Forklift Operator Certification, Coupling/Uncoupling, Cargo Securement - Rigging and Slinging, Crane, and Hoisting Equipment Operator - Boom Truck, Chainsaw Safety, Fire Extinguisher, Overhead Powerline, Customer Service.
