**Position Title - Scrum Master**

**Location - Edmonton, AB**

- **Role Description**_

A Scrum Master acts as a project manager throughout the initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out phases of the project management life cycle, and is responsible for the management of the agile sprint process for a scrum team.
- **Responsibilities**_

a) Provides team leadership, guidance, and mentoring in agile principles, policies, and procedures.

b) Assists with adopting strategies as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team.

c) Facilitates on-the-job learning of essential concepts and tools that promote the adoption of modern service delivery and transformation within the GoA.

d) Manages and navigates changes in direction, including priorities and expectations, to ensure successful completion of sprint sessions.

e) Manages communication to improve transparency and disseminate information.

f) Leads and facilitates key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demos and retrospectives.

g) Negotiates agreements regarding resource requirements to expand/collapse the agile team as needed to meet commitments.

h) Negotiates changes to agreed commitments with the DIO to ensure the agile team delivers within acceptable timelines.

i) Ensures the agile team achieves the correct level of commitment through negotiation with the DIO.

j) Identifies and removes roadblocks and distractions that affect sprint commitments and prevent delivering of product features.

k) Mitigates conflict and ensures resolution.

l) Enables the agile team to become self-organized and empowered to deliver consistently on sprint session commitments.

m) Maintains metrics using project management tools to provide visibility on product level plans, progress and quality assurance.

n) Participates in field work and user research as part of a cross-functional agile team.

o) Other responsibilities as required or requested.

**Qualifications**:
a) Experience in agile software development methodologies.

b) Experience leading and mentoring team(s) in agile principles, policies and procedures.

c) Experience with one-on-one and team coaching.

d) Experience leading and facilitating key agile ceremonies, including planning sessions, stand-ups, product demonstrations and retrospectives.

e) Experience with agile product management tools (e.g. Jira, Kanban, Taiga).

f) Experience planning work that aligns to product owner priorities.

g) Experience with software development.

h) Experience with agile projects, preferably in or for a public sector organization.

i) Experience with web development, user-centred design and UI best practices.

j) Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with multiple clients and stakeholders, including negotiating agreements and resolving conflicts.

k) Industry-recognized Scrum Master certification.
