**Start date**:August 12th - September 9th 2024

**End date**: October 14th - December 31st 2024 (maximum duration = 20 weeks)

**Location**: Squamish BC (in person)

**Hours**: 15h - 30h/week. Flexible to suit your needs.

**Pay**: $20/h

**Eligibility**:

- You must be enrolled in an academic program at a Canadian college or university full or part time.
- You do not need to be actively studying at the time.
- Recent graduates and international students are not eligible.
- You must be a citizen of Canada, a permanent resident or have refugee status.

Create Makerspace is an arts and culture hub in Squamish featuring a fully equipped shop for wood work, metal work, têxtiles, pottery and jewelry. We have been open since January 2024 offering memberships, classes, studio rentals and a design & fabrication service. Our mission is to create a well-equipped, accessible, inclusive community hub that makers, artists, and innovators can use for business, recreation and education. **Position Overview**:
We are seeking a motivated Technical Intern to join our team and contribute to the design, fabrication, and production of custom products within our makerspace. This role offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment as well as the chance to get acquainted with cutting edge machinery such as the CNC router and the laser cutter.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- **Design Assistance**:Collaborate with other team members to conceptualize and design custom products, prototypes, and projects using CAD software and other design tools.
- **Fabrication Support**: Assist in the fabrication process, including laser cutting, CNC machining, 3D printing, woodworking, metalworking, and other relevant techniques.
- **Project Management**: Manage project timelines, material sourcing, and budget constraints to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
- **Shop Upkeep**: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace by following proper shop protocols, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
- **Technical Support**:Provide guidance and technical assistance to makerspace members, helping them troubleshoot issues and optimize their fabrication processes.
- **Documentation**: Document progress, including design iterations, fabrication techniques, and lessons learned, to facilitate knowledge sharing

**What kind of person you are**:

- Currently enrolled in a relevant technical program (e.g., engineering, industrial design, fabrication technology, etc.)
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Fusion 360) and familiarity with design principles.
- Familiarity with fabrication tools and techniques is a plus, such as laser cutting, CNC machining, 3D printing, woodworking, and metalworking. Extensive experience not required - we will train you
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team and engage with makerspace members.
- Passion for creativity, innovation, and lifelong learning, with a desire to contribute to a dynamic makerspace community.
- In a shop like this, we have to be health and safety oriented. You will need to be too.
