Supervisor, Infection Prevention and Control

Basic Function:
Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Nursing and Personal Care and as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, to be responsible and accountable for to implement, monitor and manage the Infection Prevention and Control Program and related processes for Norview Lodge to ensure legislative and operations requirements are being met.
Position Description:
- To be responsible for leading and the coordination of the Infection Prevention and Control program for the Home for Staff, Caregivers, Volunteers, Visitors and Residents in coordination with the Manager of Nursing and Personal Care.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to implement the Infection Prevention and Control program in the home.
- Complete monthly surveillance Infection Control reports related to illness/infection, including data analysis and propose actions related to Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) practices in the Home.
- Oversees, administers and analyzes activities including but not limited to ARO Surveillance, Hand Hygiene and COVID-19 Response Surveillance.
- Evaluate annually the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Chairs, plans and coordinates the Infection Prevention and Control Committee (at least quarterly) and activities.
- Collaborate with Environmental Services regarding sanitization, disinfection, sterilization and environmental cleaning standards through assessment, education and auditing.
- Monitor and review practices for re-processing of equipment and product review and evaluation to ensure the products support safe IPAC practices.
- Member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Outbreak Management Team and any other committee that is relevant to Infection Prevention and Control.
- Infection Prevention and Control surveillance using best practice guidelines.
- Monitor staff compliance with Infection and Control protocols and environmental cleaning practices according to PIDAC best practice guidelines and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care standards.
- Ensure Infection Control audit completion and report applicable gaps to appropriate committee, or supervisor. Ensures implementation of improvements related to the identified gaps.
- Collaborate with Public Health regarding communicable diseases and outbreak responses.
- Coordinate and lead the planning, implementation, maintenance and administration of the any vaccination campaign activities for both Residents and Staff including reporting and data collection.
- Maintain the Respiratory Protection Plan for Staff-N95 fit testing, ensuring completion.
- Manages the hand hygiene program for the home.
- Occupational Health related to Staff Illness.
- Monitors Occupational Health and Safety related to personal protective equipment, devices, clothing are maintained in good working order and used correctly.
- Develops and contributes to the development of polices and Infection Control practices that ensure compliance following PIDAC recommendations and other legislative requirements.
- Collaborate and assist in designing the Infection Prevention and Control educational program for staff in accordance with the LTC Homes Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Participate as a member of the Nursing Management Team including on-call rotation, investigations and discipline meetings.
- Supervise and direct work of Nursing Team members as par to Nursing On-Call Team.
- Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly Quality Improvement STATS for Quality Assurance.
- To undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation.
- To adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routines and additional practices as required.
- To participate in in-service educational opportunities and staff meetings.
- Participate in annual mandatory education as per MOHLTC regulations.
- To maintain an awareness at all times of emergency procedures, and participate in drills/exercises and associated educational opportunities.
- To be aware of and comply with all County and home policies and procedures.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times. Safeguard Personal Health Information and Personal Information.
- To orientate new staff to Infection Prevention and Control activities ex: sharps training for Registered Staff, donning and doffing as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Performs as a staff Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) functioning under the job description of a Registered Practical Nurse, as required.
**Requirements**:
Knowledge and Experience:
- Registered Practical Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Two years’ experience in a long term care setting demonstrating strong clinical and assessment skills.
- Courses specific to gerontology, dementia studies and Infection Prevention and Control an asset;
- Working knowledge of Ministry of Health and Long Term Care regulation standar
