You are “proactive” rather than “reactive” a chemist who takes initiative

As the **Intermediate Chemist**, you will work primarily on-site at Canfor Pulp Innovation located in Burnaby, BC. You will work under the direction of the Pulp and Paper team while you provide lab support for project focus areas. This is a one-year temporary contract with the potential for a longer-term opportunity. Travel to the mills should be expected a couple of times per year.

A day in the life of an Intermediate Chemist includes:

- Operation and maintenance of analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, GCMS-QQQ, HPLC, FTIR, UV/VIS, and CHNS elemental analyzer
- Sample preparation and standard test methods such as pH and conductivity, solvent extraction, lignin and carbohydrate content, hemicellulose, viscosity
- Pulping studies for the investigation of the impact of different types of wood on pulp quality
- Bleaching studies involving lab-scale trials investigating cost reduction opportunities and improvements in fibre properties
- Training and supervision of co-operative education university students

For this role, come equipped with:

- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience working in a laboratory or analytical chemistry role
- Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and guidelines, such as ISO, GMP, GLP, or other relevant standards
- Strong computer proficiency including experience with data management
