Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the Activity Facilitator provides recreation opportunities to persons of all ages with developmental disabilities using a variety of techniques, including arts and crafts, sports, games, dance, physical activity, music and community outings, this role will improve and maintain the person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The Activity Facilitator works with Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and the larger community to increase engagement for the people we support. The Activity Facilitator will deliver trainings on a curriculum across Aptus and other agencies in the GTA..

**What You Will Do**:

- Lead or support project works and deliverables as assigned; may be assigned to participate on various committees
- Encourage people supported to engage in recreation and other skills
- Observe and record supported persons’ participation, reactions, and progress
- Work with Aptus teams to develop/follow/run recreation programs, as created
- Conducting presentations and training
- Help with community integration
- Obtain information from medical records, medical staff, family members and the clients themselves that’s relevant to providing services
- Plan and perform group and one to one activities
- Check supply rooms to assure that needed supplies and recreational items are on hand and maintained to perform projects and activities
- Provide general guidance to Aptus support workers, volunteers, students and people in the community
- Follow all policies and procedures
- Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, in-service training as assigned
- Maintain most recent and applicable Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards in the workspace.

**What You offer to Aptus**:

- Post-secondary education, university preferred, in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field; a combination of education, training and work experience may be considered
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in program development, planning, implementation and documentation of recreation-based programs
- Professional member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or other recreation-related organizations (e.g. Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association, Recreation Professionals of Ontario, Parks and Recreations Ontario, etc.) preferred.
- Minimum four (4) years direct experience supporting children and adults with dual-diagnosis, mental health, development disabilities in a mental health facility and/or community-based setting
- Strong understanding of disability issues, resources and legislation relevant to supporting people with a developmental disability (including human rights and poverty)
- Minimum four (4) years direct experience in a social or recreation program preferred, or any related experience
- Experience working with people with physical or developmental disabilities is an asset
- Able to identify new methods to incorporate recreation into activities for clients
- Ability to facilitate programming and direct DSPs in effective use of recreational activities
- Proven ability to design, develop, and deliver effective recreation participation programs
- Demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate groups using a collaborative approach
