**Role Responsibilities**:

Join Alberta TEC as a SafeRoads Adjudicator, where your decisions will help improve road safety, uphold justice, and protect communities from the dangers of impaired driving. As a SafeRoads Adjudicator, you will independently review administrative penalties, assess evidence, and issue well-reasoned decisions to promote road safety and justice. This role combines critical thinking, communication, and legal expertise in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Your key responsibilities include:

- Evaluating written and oral submissions to resolve factual disputes.
- Conducting teleconference and video hearings with professionalism and impartiality.
- Drafting well-structured, legally sound written decisions.
- Staying informed on relevant legislation, case law, and regulatory changes.
- Ensuring adherence to procedural fairness and natural justice in every review.
- Collaborating with peers to maintain consistency and quality in decision-making.
- Contributing to program improvement through feedback and recommendations.

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- Cover letter detailing how your skills and experience align with the role's responsibilities, used to assess writing and communication skills.
- A related university degree (i.e., Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or related discipline), supplemented by at least four (4) progressive experience in the following areas:

- decision writing.
- analyzing evidence and factual disputes.
- making findings of fact.
- writing briefings that include setting out options and making recommendations.
- Exceptional communication skills such as interviewing, written and oral, and active listening skills.
- Information gathering skills.
- Critical thinking, analytical and conceptual skills.
- Judgement and decision making skills.
- Conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation.
- Sensitivity to confidentiality, respect and ethical behavior.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Report writing and recording skills.
- Interpretation and understanding of legislation including the Traffic Safety Act and its regulations, the Provincial Administrative Penalties Act (PAPA) and its regulations and the Criminal Code (Canada).
- Computer skills including information management systems and Office 365.

Desired:

- Previous experience with SafeRoads adjudication or other tribunals.
- Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
- Experience writing formal adjudication decisions.
- Knowledge about tribunals and the administrative law process.
- Experience analyzing evidence or research and providing recommended options.

Equivalencies are:
A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.
