Evaluations Specialist

**About the Role**:
**The Evaluations Specialist will**:
- Assess and adjudicate files for admissibility for all undergraduate programs;
- Counsel current and prospective students and their parents/agents with respect to admission requirements and other related issues;
- Evaluate academic qualifications to determine authenticity;
- Adjudicate and assigning transfer credit, where applicable and assign continuation of study;
- Convey admission decisions to applicants and responding to applicants’ questions and unique circumstances;
- Consult and advise on policy and pre-requisites for Undergraduate programs;
- Research and stay current on provincial, national and international curriculum;
- Develop and recommend strategies and action plans to meet program and enrollment targets and to reflect University initiatives;
- Determine when it is appropriate and necessary to deviate from admissions criteria in the Faculty Handbook; act independently in determining alternative solutions, taking only unusual or difficult cases forward to the Manager;
- Act as the first point of Admissions contact for new and prospective transfer pathway partners;
- Research competitor information regarding transfer policy and process;
- Ensure that transfer credit mapping remains up-to-date and liaison with Faculty contracts for current equivalencies;
- Required to deal with individuals who are angry and upset as a result of unfavourable admission decisions; must be empathetic while at the same time upholding the decision;
- Adjudicate and/or present and prepare special cases to the Admissions Committee for review.
**Key Skills and Experience**:
- Undergraduate university degree;
- Related work experience in a University or College Admissions or requirements office or equivalent;
- Knowledge of Canadian and international education systems;
- Knowledge of the related educational process and courses/programs offered at Brock;
- Requires awareness of alternative solutions for the applicant (i.e. upgrading, appropriate course of action to realize career goals, etc.) and must be able to articulate these solutions;
- Proven ability to research topics and write reports while attending accurately to detail;
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, relation-building, and communication skills to interact effective with applicants, staff, faculty and external contracts;
- Strong counselling, influencing and consultative skills, ability to listen, ask questions, summarize and translate information to make effective decisions and resolve problems;
- Ability to work independently and proven ability to work in a team environment within and across the University;
- Proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential material and remain focused in a high volume, high stress environment; coordinate a multitude of priorities and tasks;
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and decision making skills;
- Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills.
**Preferred or Asset Skills**:
- Credential evaluation certificates;
- Public speaking skills.
**Salary and Total Rewards**:
- Job Grade (J), Salary Scale ($52,920-$90,720)*;
- Target Hiring Range: $52,920-$56,500
- This is a fixed term contract with benefits set to conclude in January 2026
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $52,920.00-$56,500.00 per year
