CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle - mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.

CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

**About the Role**

The CASA Preschool Day Program (PDP) and Children’s Day Program (CDP) are tertiary-level, interdisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic educational resources. These programs are intended to provide intensive family-centered diagnostic review and therapeutic education, developmental intervention and clinical care in a specialized early childhood setting. The interdisciplinary teams in our day programs support children ages three to 12 with identified mental health and learning concerns.

These teams include an Occupational Therapist Assistant, Mental Health Therapists, Classroom Behavioural Specialists, Psychiatrists, Teachers, Clinical Managers, Speech-Language Pathologists/Assistants and more.

The Speech-Language Pathologist provides identification, assessment, planning, coordination and delivery of care services to children, youth and families affected by communication and related disorders within CASAs programs and services.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will:

- Provide services including:

- Screening/informal and formal assessment of speech, language, fluency, voice, feeding and swallowing difficulties and related communication challenges.
- Determining appropriate diagnostic instruments/treatments to use with each patient.
- Interpreting test results in conjunction with other related medical, behavioural and educational information, to identify speech, language, communication and related disorders.
- Developing, planning, and implementing individual and group intervention programs carried out inside and outside of the classroom.
- Monitor, evaluate and modify speech-language therapy care plan based on effectiveness of interventions and/or changes in condition or environment, in collaboration with the patient and care team.
- Provide information and instructions to assist in understanding the clinical condition and ongoing care and management.
- Consult and provide advice and educational services to patients and families regarding communication and related disorders.
- Collaborate and support a number of concurrently operating multidisciplinary teams and programs in specialized school based settings and across multiple sites.
- Act as a resource and provides supportive training to team members to assist in their professional development.
- Identify service delivery improvements and suggest enhancements with the lens of evidence informed practice and CASA strategic and operational plans.
- Participate in the development of children’s mental health teaching and resource materials.

**Qualifications**
- Graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
- A minimum of three to five years recent pediatric experience; including experience working with children and youth with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties in community based, school based, and/or day program settings.
- The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with a variety of professionals, children, adolescents, and their families.
- Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice.
- Respect and understanding of confidentiality/ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information.
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records or similar information systems.
- Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving ability.
- Appreciation of interdisciplinary approach to mental health illness.
- Ability to make evidence based decisions.

**Conditions of Employment**
- A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
