We are searching for a talented Data Scientist to join our Integrated Analytics Exploration Branch as we continue to expand our data science activities in the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
- Using machine learning algorithms to explore, analyze, and discover new insights from our data assets;
- Building, deploying, and maintaining statistical and machine learning models and data pipelines;
- Using your data science knowledge to improve the performance of our machine-learning models in production.
- Develop visualizations that help communicate complex findings clearly, enabling decision-makers and stakeholders to make informed choices;
- Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, making complex concepts accessible to diverse audiences;
- Automating data preparation and analysis processes;

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: As a Data Scientist, you will work with colleagues across our Division to deliver novel data science solutions to tangible, real-world problems. Just some of the things you can expect to do day-to-day include:

- Training, deploying, and maintaining statistical and machine learning models in production environments;
- Carrying out novel exploratory, inferential, and predictive analyses on complex structured and unstructured data assets;
- Use your data science knowledge and expertise to identify relevant features and variables that can impact the performance of our machine-learning models;
- Design and implement data pipelines that collect and preprocess data from various sources across the government;
- Creating stunning data visualization and communication tools to tell compelling stories with data enabling informed decision-making;
- Connecting and working with your policy and operation colleagues beyond ministry lines to deliver integrated data, analytics, and data science services.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Analytical Knowledge and Expertise**:

- You have knowledge of the mathematical foundations of common data science modelling approaches.
- You have the ability to synthesize the big picture from disparate data sources while demonstrating strong attention to detail skills.
- You have the ability to learn public sector policy and program research, development, and analysis principles, practices and methods.

**Technical Knowledge and Expertise**:

- You have experience working with data science programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Scala) and data querying languages (e.g. SQL, Hive, Cypher) to load, prepare, and use high variety / high volume data assets for reporting, analysis, and statistical / machine learning model development.
- You have knowledge of data/database management principles, technologies, and best practices for working with structured and unstructured data assets.
- You are familiar with and comfortable working in cloud environments and using web-based analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks).

**Communication, Consultation and Negotiation Skills**:

- You have experience in data storytelling and communication through different mediums - for example, dashboards, briefings, reports, and slide decks.
- You have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts with clarity to non-technical colleagues.
- You have consultation, consensus-building and networking skills to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- You have persuasion and influencing skills to convince stakeholders of project relevance and necessity.
- You have negotiation, conflict management and consensus-building skills to resolve contentious issues, maximize team/stak
