RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively communicates with all team members and ensures that the Supervisor receives pertinent information in a timely manner.
- Encourages and promotes client independence in personal care to promote the comfort and safety of the client. Some typical activities include: bathing, skin care, feeding, toileting, mouth care, dressing, undressing, and grooming to include shaving, nail and hair care. Provides physical assistance and supervision to clients as required.
- Understands, respects, and complies with Client’s Bill of Rights.
- Reports any requests or complaints made by the clients and families to the Supervisor or Client Case Coordinator.
- Attends in-service and continuing educational sessions, as assigned.
- Provides restorative care for clients; assists with ambulation, feeding skills, bathing and grooming as assigned.
- Provides behavioural care for clients; including walking, keeping assigned clients occupied with recreation, discussions, etc.
- Encourages client participation in social and recreational programming, as per the clients’ care plans. Assist clients to and from activities.
- Implements quarterly and annual objectives for department as part of the care team.
- Assists clients with light housekeeping, shopping, laundry and meal preparation.
- Assists with testing of Emergency Response System as assigned.
- Assist with implementation and evaluation of the plan of care for the clients that is client focused.
- Participates in health record documentation by completing client care checklist, as assigned.
- Mentors and trains new staff and students.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement.
- Supervises, serves and assists clients with eating and accurately documents all intake.
- Responds to client emergency response calls and provides assistance as required.
- Assists in the proper care and maintenance of any equipment.
- Attends in-service and continuing educational sessions, as assigned.
- Complies with Compliance Standards from Ministry of Health Long-Term Care and Villa Colombo Policies & Procedures and other relevant regulatory and legislative standards.
- Carries sick call cell phone, receives sick calls, and completes replacement scheduling for the LTC Home.
- Performs other related duties as required.

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
- Ontario College Certificate that is approved by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Training
- Excellent organizational, observational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong documentation skills
- Ability to Multitask and Prioritize
- Ability to demonstrate positive and pleasant demeanor and able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate resident safety strategies
- Ability to interact with seniors including those that are cognitively impaired
- Works independently as well as within a team
- Demonstrates skill in managing aggressive behaviour using client centered approach
- Ability to speak Italian an asset

A police reference check for the vulnerable sector, not older than 6 months, will be required.
- It is a condition of employment that new employees provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start date of employment. This means that all new employees must have received all doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada prior to their start date including the 3rd dose of booster vaccination if applicable. **Villa Colombo Toronto requires all employees to receive their 3rd dose of the vaccine 6 months post the date of their 2nd dose. **_In addition, it is a condition of employment that all new hires obtain and submit proof of all required doses of the vaccine and maintain all COVID-19 booster vaccines as approved and recommended by Health Canada. Applicants who have appropriate written proof of a medical reason, or a reason pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code, for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may provide such documentation to the Human Resources department. Such situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis._

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
- Night shift
- Weekend availability

COVID-19 considerations:
All staff are required to wear masks. Other PPE's are available including, face shield/goggles, gloves, and gowns.

**Education**:

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
