**The Role**

Mental Health and Addictions Navigator’s primary role is to help create effective links between appropriate mental health and addictions and social resources. More specifically, the Navigator will be a resource and/or assist in supporting MNO’s Healing and Wellness staff, in the care planning for their clients by way of clients to the most appropriate service provider and liaising with other parts of the health care system within the Province. Ultimately, this position will aid in Community Wellbeing staff’s ability to connect clients to appropriate Mental Health and Addictions services and supports that are client /family centered, holistic in nature, focused on prevention, promotion and early intervention, and firmly rooted in Métis traditions and cultural values within their respective communities.

**This position** **reports directly to the Supervisor of Mental Health and Addictions.**

**In carrying out the following duties, it is expected that the **_**Mental Health and Addictions Navigator **_**will**:

- Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of MNO’s Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO’s work, and to the requirements of the position specifically
- Adhere to MNO Policies and Procedures and MNO’s Financial Policies and Procedures at all times
- Uphold MNO’s Standards of Professional Conduct at all times
- Adhere to Privacy Laws and respect confidential information at all times
- The employee must be cognizant of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board, Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, and other legislative provisions governing the employment relationship between MNO and the employee
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with established Métis Nation of Ontario Policies and Procedures and Contribution Agreements (CA)
- Work in collaboration within the Branch, other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, MNO contractors and consultants on related projects
- Attend the Annual General Assembly (MNO Policy 2.120) and MNO public service training as directed.

**The incumbent is responsible for the following items, as well as other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Designated Approving Authority**:

- Be available to MNO’s Community Wellbeing staff to consult and support re: Mental Health and Addictions resources available for their client(s) - children, youth and their families
- Provide MNO’s Community Wellbeing staff with information to help them navigate the mental health and addictions system using existing databases and available community information
- Liaise with other MNO mental health services and supports on cases
- Actively and independently keep up-to-date on mental health and addictions services available across the Province for children, youth and families
- When directed, represent the MNO at community events
- Develop new collaborations and partnerships as directed
- Implement annual project work plans and activity reports
- Keep up-to-date records
- Provide bi-weekly reports to the Supervisor of Mental Health and Addictions

**Qualifications**
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Completed Post-Secondary education in related field is preferred; however, a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the field of child and youth mental health and addictions preferably to clients in an Indigenous, including Métis, setting.

**Mandatory qualifications**:

- Experience and knowledge of Indigenous issues, specifically as it relates to Métis peoples and is an asset
- Experience working directly in the field of child and youth mental health and addictions
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario’s Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions programs and services
- Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
