**Health and Safety Officer***

We proudly serve over 40,000 students across almost 100 elementary and secondary schools in Niagara, located between Lake Erie in the South and Lake Ontario to the North.

The Health and Safety Officer reporting to the Manager of Facility Operations, will plan, develop, and maintain a comprehensive Health and Safety Program for all employees. This will include developing and coordinating the Health and Safety training programs (e.g., First Aid/CPR). Manages the Multi Workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee and assists them with compliance (including assistance with eBase, general compliance, meetings, etc.). Investigates and responds to Health and Safety concerns and recommends corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards. Provides advice and participates in the development of corporate guidelines, procedures, and policy.
- Demonstrated experience in workplace health and safety and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety act and government regulatory requirements.
- Effective leadership skills and the ability to prioritize and successfully complete projects with conflicting deadlines.
- Proficiency in data analysis.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Develop health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with relevant legislation and in consultation with various stakeholders.
- Implement the health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to minimize health concerns and eliminate accidents and incidents, support compliance, and ensure a safe workplace and learning environment for staff and students.
- Report calls of critical injuries to the Ministry of Labour Training and Skills Development, initiate accident investigation of injuries, and prepare and submit related reports.
- Develop training including Health and Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Pandemic Planning, Emergency Preparedness, Violence and Harassment, Accessibility, ladder, scaffold, lockout tagout and fit testing.
- Update policies and procedures based on best practice and legislative requirements.
- Develop proactive strategies for accident and incident prevention and elimination by analyzing accident data statistics.
- Develop the MWJHSC meeting schedule and review and revise meeting minutes.
- Manage First Aid, CPR and AED training to Board employees to educate and inform staff on appropriate action in the event of incidents or accidents. Submit budget and provide secondment to staff and payment to training provide.
- Manage and coordinate all training, including Level 1, 2 and 3 training for all Facility Services staff.
- Assist with obtaining health and safety inspection quotations and tender preparation, prepare and submit inspection budgets, and schedule inspections for work sites and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications required include**:

- Minimum Community College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or certification in Health and Safety that is acceptable to the Board, e.g., CRSP, ROH or CIH.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ work-related experience in health and safety, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and communication skills
- Proven experience building collaborative working relationships and providing exemplary service to a diverse group of stakeholders.

**Salary range: $76,356 - $89,284** **. Includes a comprehensive benefit plan. This is a full time, 12-month, 35 hour per week position and is part of the Board’s union-exempt Administrative Management Group.
