**Assistant Curator

**POSITION OVERVIEW**

Joining the Economic Development and Tourism Department, the Assistant Curator will be
responsible for assisting with the effective and efficient operation of the Ingersoll Cheese
and Agricultural Museum. The Assistant Curator will be responsible for:

Scheduling and supervising staff at the Museum

Acquiring artifacts through donations, using budget funds, or government grants

Preserving artifacts by researching and using proper methods of care and environmental
controls

Cataloguing artifacts, assigning numbers, documenting condition and historical
information and classifying with museum standards and PastPerfect or other software

used by the Museum

Maintaining and updating museum records, changing processes and efficiencies as
required

Assisting Curator with artifact restoration

Assisting Curator with display of artifacts in permanent or temporary exhibits

Developing marketing material and updating on a regular basis

Utilizing graphic design, social media, video production and other means to promote the
Museum and record information on the history of artifacts or events

Attend trade/travel/tourism shows heritage displays, etc. to promote the Museum as
required by the Curator

Prepare displays and outreach programs

Conduct tours for groups and visitors to the Museum

Research and record information regarding artifacts, persons, events etc. pertaining to
Ingersoll’s history and conduct interviews to obtain historical information and personal

perspectives

Supervise Museum staff, participate in hiring interviews, prepare schedules, assign tasks,
review work and take disciplinary action as required, referring more complex situations

to Managers and HR Coordinator

Supervise Museum volunteers and ensure policies are adhered to

equipment, repairs etc.

Prepare agendas, record minutes, act as Secretary and participate in the Museum Board

Provides general administrative support to the Museum as required by supervisors

Answer general inquiries and process gift shop and programming transactions

Perform any other related duties assigned by supervisors

Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Requires time outside normal working hours

**Qualifications**

Have a knowledge of 19th century life skills

Experience with exhibit design and installation

Possess graphic design, social media, and video production skills

Have experience with PastPerfect Database and the Microsoft/Google suite of

Have 3 years or more experience in a similar Museum

Have the ability to read cursive writing

Possess an analytical mind for research and cross referencing

Be creative and take initiative with an outgoing personality and public speaking
experience

Have a willingness to learn new things

Possess _or be enrolled in the_ OMA certificate in museum studies _or equivalent_

Received conservation training

Have a passion for history, tourism, and community
Have a University Degree in History, Museum Studies or similar

Have a valid class “G” province of Ontario driver’s license.

Have First Aid/CPR Training
