Development Planning Officer

The Development Planning Officer evaluates proposals for development, provides advice, participates, facilitates and consults as a representative of the Department with regards to zoning development and land use issues.

**As the **_Development Planning Officer,_** you will**:
**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Environmental Studies or a related field, or a Planning Technician Certificate from a Community College, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience working with the community in a participative and interactive manner.
- Experience in public meetings, representing an agency in such situations.
- Experience in dealing with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful working relationships, including dealing effectively, with all levels of employees and the public.
- Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to conduct public presentations.
- Strong written communication skills including formal report writing.
- Analytical and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of zoning by-laws, development procedure by-laws, the City of Winnipeg Charter and Plan Winnipeg.
- Knowledge of contemporary planning and community service issues.
- Working knowledge of health cities/health community’s principles.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and associated software (Word, Outlook, AMANDA, geographic information systems).
- Ability to work in a team environment.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
