West Coast Wild Foods is North America’s leading wild foods company. With offices in Vancouver, BC and Portland, Oregon, we supply wild mushrooms and other wild foods to our growing customer base throughout the world. We specialize in large volume wholesale distribution, small scale distribution, retail and online sales.
We began operating in Canada in 2009 and opened our US branch in 2017. Our product line consists of wild mushrooms, wild berries, and wild vegetables as well as imported specialty foods. Our highest volume items are morel mushrooms, pine mushrooms, chanterelle mushrooms and wild mountain huckleberries.
In 2020 we began experimenting with steam distillation and we now make our own essential oils from the local trees here in BC, we also make natural products with these amazing essential oils. We formed our new company in 2021; Coast Mountain Essential Oils.

**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer, the Financial Controller is an integral part of the company management team and has primary accountability for fiduciary management of the company’s assets and resources. Strategically and operationally, the Controller is the key executive partner to the CEO/Founder and COO/Founder. Partnering with the senior management team, the Controller helps support the development and execution of the Company’s long and short-term business plans and operations to achieve growth and ROI goals approved by the senior management team.
**Responsibilities**
- Lead the management of the Financial/Accounting team including supervision of the junior accountants and creation of guidelines and structure throughout the accounting department.
- Prepare various financial statements and statistical statements, regular financial analysis reports, and accounting statements.
- Prepare a monthly profit and loss statement for management
- Partner with the COO and CEO to increase enterprise efficiency and value.
- Responsible for financial supervision, ensuring financial security and accounting office security.
- Utilize Sage 300 accounting software and ensure that the software is fully implemented and organized.
- Work with the operations teams in both the Vancouver and Portland office on inventory management. Working in a hands-on way to improve company inventory management is a key aspect of the role.
- Oversee and conduct company cash movement and bank account management including transferring of funds for purchases and payment to vendors.
- Optimize cash management. Conduct regular analysis of cash flow. Maintain full financial statement forecasts throughout the year.
- Manage payroll, workers’ comp, expense tracking and reimbursement, etc.
- Develop and manage tax strategies and tax filings.
- Manage relationships with banks and auditors. Ensure records systems compliance with CRA and U.S. GAAP. Maintain internal control safeguards.
- Co-develop and manage the Strategic, Annual Operating and Capital plans.
- Produce accurate, actionable, and timely monthly financial and operations reports for management.
- Oversee risk management, including insurance coverage.
- Lead consistent, on-going focus on profit improvements. Perform regular and frequent analysis of customer, vendor, and product profitability, cost controls, and expenses to guide business decisions and identify potential improvements to customer and product profitability.
- Lead improvements to working capital efficiency.
- Use and maintain Sage 300 software as the primary forecasting system tool, expanding existing forecasting process into an integrated business process with collaborative input from all departments.
- Consistently improve forecast accuracy including developing statistical forecast models, overseeing cross-functional execution, reconciling variances, evaluating forecast results and refining the forecasting model to reflect updated production, sales, marketing and supply chain assumptions.
- Prepare, report, and communicate forecast and inventory measurements.
- Partner with the COO,CEO and senior management team to implement Company policies and procedures and maintain a positive culture and work environment that supports staff engagement and Company growth.
