**Job Description - Personal Support Worker**
**Job Summary**:
The PSW provides personal care and services and related nonprofessional services to each resident under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Care Manager.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Personal care and services to promote the comfort and safety of the residents.
2. Observes and promptly reports any significant changes in a resident’s physical and emotional condition.
3. Completes documentation according to established policies.
4. Follows daily, weekly and monthly routines for specific duties.
5. Reports nutrition-related concerns to the Clinical Care Manager for follow-up.
6. Deals respectfully, tactfully and courteously with residents, residents’ families and visitors.
7. Directs all inquiries regarding residents’ care and conditions to the RPN.
8. Make designated entries into resident care plan program as needed.
9. Participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
10. Assists in maintaining a tidy and clean environment of the resident’s suite and/or care area.
11. Attends staff and family meetings as required.
12. Reports all incidents promptly and accurately, participates in the Resident’s Falls Prevention and Behavior Management Program.
13. Shares responsibility for the care of supplies and equipment as well as the personal belongings of the residents.
14. Is aware of and respects and promotes Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
15. Attends in-service programs and participates in all mandatory/required education/training.
16. Performs other related duties as requested by the Clinical Care Manager or General Manager.
17. Works closely with other PSWs, collaborate care with other care team members as well as external care providers (Private caregiver, community)
18. Assists with medication administration, and responsible for ensuring completion of annual medication administration training.
19. Helps with ADLs, personal hygiene, dressing, ambulation, toileting and continence care.
20. Skin care and re-positioning.
21. Transfers and re-positioning.
22. Range-of-motion exercises (Active and Passive) Restorative Care focus.
23. **Added Tasks - Transfer of Function (Necessary)**
- Vital signs and weights
- Collecting specimens, intake and output
- Recording dietary intake
- Changing catheter bags
- Colostomy care
- Warm and cold compresses
- Designated treatment and medication.
- Other duties may be assigned as designated by the needs of Residence on King
**Qualifications**:
**PSW certificate or equivalent**
- Grade 10 or equivalent is desirable. Computer skills an asset.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team environment.
- Genuine interest in and concern for seniors.
- Maturity and good physical and mental health.
**Reports To**:
The PSW reports directly to the Clinical Care Manager and/or General Manager.
**Working Conditions**:
- Must be able to work independently, according to established procedures/policies, and also to work as a member of a group.
- Lifting alone, maximum 40 lbs. (5-25 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
- Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs. (100-200 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts and trolleys, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
- Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift as an essential job function.
- Walking, with possible some upstairs walking, up to 3 hours maximum, (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Standing, for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.
- Crouching/kneeling on an irregular frequency throughout the shift, as a non-essential job function.
- Carries/ transports objects of various sizes, up to a maximum of 25 lbs. (5-15 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
**Responsibilities to Health and Safety**:
1. Is aware of employees’ responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in departmental manuals.
2. Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers and residents.
3. Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to immediate supervisor. Does not operate or use faulty equipment.
4. Wear personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by task, M.S.D.S. or Residence on King’s policy.
5. Promptly reports personal injury to Clinical Care Manager or General Manager and seeks first aid as needed.
6. Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the Residence on King fire and disaster plan.

Pay: $17.50-$18.00 per hour
