**Day Care Centre Job Description**

Job Title**:Day Care Assistant/Floater 12:30-6 Monday
- Friday**

Reports to: Day Care Director

Children on the Hill, a non-profit, fully bilingual childcare centre accredited by the Ministry of Education since 1982, is seeking a new Daycare Assistant/Floater. If you are passionate about early childcare education, and you want to work with a team of effective, dedicated educators, this position is a great opportunity.
II. Functions / Key Results Expected **Basic care and custody**
- Aiding educators with child development
- Parent partnership
- Kitchen Duties
- _**Basic care and custody**:_
- Greeting the children upon arrival and observing special needs communicated by the guardian or parent (attentive to dressing needs, physical condition, communication ability, emotional state)
- Complete accident and medical form as required.
- Inspecting the premises for complete security (and emergency preparedness) of doors, fences, locks, broken equipment and health hazards (e.g. cleaning chemicals) for toddlers and young children
- Disinfecting and cleaning toys, beds, laundry, etc.
- Verifying the readiness of designated spaces for toileting, dressing children, eating, resting, food preparation, storage of bed linen, outdoor play equipment. Includes emergency planning and drills.
- For younger toddlers, verifying toileting needs and changing diapers
- Keeping daycare tidy and presentable
- Keeping storage rooms accessible and in order
- _**Teaching and child development**_
- Guiding the children and helping them in their physical, social, mental, emotional and linguistic development
- Conducting fair, consistent behavioral regulation methods through positive approach and showing children how to develop their self-control in frustrating situations
- Monitoring children as they learn to pick-up their toys, dress, find their personal things
- Coaching and showing how to do simple painting, drawing, singing and similar entertaining activities
- Providing the full variety of a daily program, snacks, toileting, personal hygiene, naps
- In compliance with strict daycare licensing conditions, ensures constant adult/children ratios by replacing teachers requiring stepping out temporarily or scheduled for late arrivals in the morning, as well as for teacher’s breaks
- Covers rotation of shifts at least two hours and 45 minutes per day
- _**Parent partnership**_
- Keeps all parties aware of ongoing situations (e.g. outings; illness; exceptional events such as epidemics
- _**Kitchen Duties**_
- Preparing snacks by distributing it to each classroom/ group.
- Gathering dishes to be picked up for washing.
- Changing sheets weekly.
- Cleaning fridge once a week.
- Writing all changes to menus from food services and keeping copies for four weeks as per ministry standard.

**III. Recruitment Qualifications**

**Education**:

- High School graduate or equivalent
- Early Childhood Education Diploma (at least equivalent academic qualification to Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology) ASSET
- First-aid certificate (renewable at least every three years)

**Experience**:

- Experience working with toddlers and children
- It would be an asset to be computer literate and able to use current word-processing instruments to produce reports

Personal abilities
- Proven to be a mature, kind, sympathetic, understanding, attentive and caring person relating well with toddlers and pre-school children
- Well-organized/ Great time management skills

Language

**Requirements**:

- Ability to communicate well in French and English (i.e. to be functional, make oneself understood easily)

**Salary**: $17.00-$19.00 per hour
