**Description**:
The Chief Communications Officer is a key leadership role reporting directly to an AHS vice president. This role is accountable for providing leadership to a diverse team of 120 professional communicators in the development, design, implementation and evaluation of provincial communications and community engagement programs and services across the Alberta health system, with an emphasis on patient-focused care programs and delivery of communications in support of the AHS vision and values, and its Health Plan and Business Plan. The Chief Communications Officer provides expert counsel to the President & CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on all aspects of internal and external communications and community engagement and participates in ELT meetings. This role has responsibility for all internal, social, corporate, and Board-related communications. Additionally, this role establishes and maintains positive relationships with communities, healthcare stakeholders and government departments. It is also a key liaison with Alberta Health, the Minister's Office, and the AHS Board. The Chief Communications Officer manages and tracks an operating budget of approximately $20 million and the appropriate allocation of resources, with the ability to recognize and mitigate risks. In this role, the Chief Communication Officer builds, leads and engages Communications teams to foster cohesion and a shared vision, promoting teamwork and service quality improvement. This includes coaching, mentoring and guiding team members to meet operational objective, priorities, and emerging issues, while ensuring outcome measurements and quality standards are upheld.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Graduate Degree preferred. Professional accreditation with Canadian Public Relations Society or the International Association of Business Communicators is preferred. Previous leadership within a large, complex organization, in a healthcare organization is an asset. Experience communicating, engaging, and building relationships with Indigenous leaders and Indigenous communities, including an understanding of how colonial practices and policies contribute to historical inequities, is desirable.
