Dog Care Giver

The position is open to a dog-loving, empathetic individual with a positive mental attitude and an abundance of energy. Dog experience preferred. The ideal person will be able to take direction and follow instructions, pay attention to detail and take initiative when called for and handle dogs of all sizes. Responsibilities include ensuring the quality of life for the residents of the rescue and of our long and short-term boarding guests.

Job Responsibilities:

- Checking in and out dogs using online pet business management software (ProPet Software) ensuring the accuracy of each booking, including verifying booking instructions (i.e. feedings, medication, logging belongings) and collecting required documentation (I.e. vaccination certificates and agreements, etc.)
- Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the kennels which includes feeding dogs, changing water inside and out, sweeping pens, changing bedding, poop scooping. Shoveling some snow occasionally in the winter when it's to deep for the dogs.
- General Care of Residents:

- Assisting with administering treatment, giving medication, as well as any other special instructions given by a vet.
- Assist with basic grooming, if required (i.e. brushing, nail trimming, possibly baths, etc.)
- Assist in walking and exercising the dogs which may include one-on-one interactions (playing ball/frisbee, water play)
- Manage dogs consistently (basic obedience, leash work, etc.). Extras requested by customers, if applicable.

Job Skills & Qualifications
Required:

- Must be comfortable around dogs. Job is at a Dog Kennel & Rescue.
- Ability to work proactively, independently, and as part of a team.
- Able to communicate effectively with staff, customers, and visitors to the facility
- English language proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.
- Hours are flexible, however, availability to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays will be an essential part of this job, as we are open 365 days a year.
Nice to have, but not necessary;
- French language proficiency in speaking.
- Comfortable with teaching basic agility
- Prior kennel experience.
- Experience managing multiple dogs at a time.

*Please note there is no bus service in Carlsbad Springs*

This position is only open to people already living in the National Capital Region (within reasonable driving distance from Carlsbad Springs, 20 minutes drive East of downtown Ottawa).

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 35 per week

**Salary**: From $16.00 per hour
