**DIGBY PINES CONTROLLER OF FINANCE JOB DESCRIPTION**

The Controller of Finance has overall responsibility for directing financial operations of the hotel including timely and accurate financial planning, budgeting, analysis, accounting and reporting. Responsible for safeguarding of hotel assets and financial resources to ensure that all are utilized to maximize hotel profitability.

**Key functions**
- Continuously deliver the highest level of product with respect to financial reporting and analysis, internal control compliance and business management. Ensure this is done with both integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure that all internal controls are operating effectively, and continuously develop / monitor / update / communicate controls as required, providing updates to executive / ownership.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of a comprehensive monthly report of the entire financial results of the hotel in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Oversee partnership with financial outsourcer, ensuring timely and accurate processing and monthly reporting according to agreed-upon service levels, working together to find process efficiencies.
- Maximize cash flow performance of the hotel including close monitoring of working capital payments / collections / inventory balances.
- Analyze financial data and prepare reports on hotel operations including variance analysis explanations and make recommendations to ensure the achievement of business goals.
- Lead the annual budget process, providing financial expertise and support to departmental managers, identify cost saving and productivity opportunities, and produce final submissions along with necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Maintain files on all contracts, leases and agreements and ensure compliance with their requirements; ensure proper authorization has been obtained for all hotel specific contracts, leases and other agreements and competitive bids are on file where applicable and reviewed prior to execution of contract.
- Ensure that monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts are prepared and signed off on in accordance with policy, and reconciling items are resolved on a timely basis.
- Ensure compliance with all loan covenants and the balance of long-term debt is accurate and agrees to all supporting documentation and verified when payments are made.
- Ensure monitoring and control of all sales, purchases, salaries, and expenses of the hotel.
- Review the cash position of the hotel daily to optimize the use of funds.
- Direct receivables, payables, credit, payroll, benefits, and cash handling functions, ensuring compliance to corporate and hotel policy, procedures and programs, government regulations and legislation.
- Manage Finance team and effectively recruit, coach, train, motivate, communicate, recognize, schedule, and provide performance feedback and conduct performance correction if required
- Provide advice and counsel to Executive Team, and Department heads.
- Always search out and drive new business opportunities that benefit the hotel
- Schedule and coordinate internal audits.
- Undertake other ad hoc related responsibilities, as required.

**Education and Experience required**:

- University degree - major in accounting or finance.
- Accounting Designation considered an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in a related position preferably within a full-service hotel / resort.
