**_Position Summary _**

Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation is seeking a creative individual to fill the position of an Early
Childhood Educator for Little Turtles Daycare and Learning Centre. Under the Early Years
Administrator's direction, the RECE is knowledgeable and responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate play-based learning that supports and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children along with engaging families and community to support the child’s need.
- **Required Skills and Qualifications **_

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following qualifications:

- Diploma in Early Childhood Education (RECE)
- Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Experience working with infant(s), toddler(s) and/or pre-school children in a child
- care related position is an asset
- Professional and positive in all verbal and non-verbal interactions with parents, children, staff, and community
- Team oriented, effective time management, organizational skills, dependable, able to work independently and task oriented
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills
- Physically able to perform all duties pertaining to early years children
- Clear vulnerable sector check

**_General Duties_**

The Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for:

- Supporting families to identify their child’s needs and develop strategies to respond to those needs using positive guidance techniques
- Developing positive relationships with the teachers, parents, children, staff and community
- Able to effectively use the apps provided on an iPad or computer that support the delivery of childcare
- Ensuring the classroom space is safe, clean and inviting
- Providing input into solutions that will enhance the classroom
- Communicating information that will support the family and child
- Implementing programming that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Leading activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest;
- provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Guiding and assisting children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Observing children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare communication for parents, guardians and/or supervisor
- Planning and maintaining an environment that protects and nurtures the health, security, well-being, and sense of belonging of all children
- Assessing the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress /intervention plans with parents and other staff members
- Establishing and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
- Being knowledgeable, informed, and current on childcare philosophy and approaches
- Follows guidelines that are legislated such as, the Child Care and Early Years Act; 2014, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, The Ministry of Education, and the College of Early

Childhood Educators
- Other duties as assigned by the Early Years Administrator

**_Working Conditions_**

In a daycare school and educational setting, both Indoor and Outdoor Activities.

Fast-paced environment; Work under pressure; Repetitive tasks; Physically demanding;
Attention to detail; Standing, sitting, walking for extended periods.

Willing to work flexible hours as schedule may vary.

Be under the direction of the Early Years Administrator

**Salary**: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
