Apprentice - Machinist

**How apprenticeship works**

Once registered for classroom training, the apprentice would work full time and go to school 1 day per week during the school year. It takes between two to five years to complete a full apprenticeship, including accumulating hours worked on the job. **Performance Expectations**
- Ability to work independently to interpret, plan and produce or repair parts.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Interact with machinists to carry out new or complex tasks or to solve problems as required.
- Ability to monitor speed settings and feed rates for drills, lathes, and mills.
- Ensure machines are operating within specified ranges and make adjustments as needed.
- Complete the apprenticeship training standards as established by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities and Linamar.
- Other duties assigned as needed.

**Credentials**
- High School Diploma or equivalent general education.
- Related work experience and/or training will be viewed as assets (i.e. general metal machining program).
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work-pieces will be an asset.
- Ability to work shifts.

- Possess drive and motivation to maintain continuous learning from daily work activities and from discussions with co-workers and supervisors.
