**VISA-3008-501**:Conceptual Art Practices**
- (_Winter 2025_ Semester: _January 09, 2025_ - _April 09, 2025_; _Thursdays_; _In-Person_)_

**COURSE DESCRIPTION**:This lecture course provides students with an overview of conceptual approaches to the art object and the creative process. By examining both contemporary art practices and their historical antecedents, the course both contextualizes and explores how 20th-century art practices have approached and incorporated issues of the body, language, gesture, space and time, and the dematerialization of the art object. Conceptual art, performance art, art and language, and installation art will be discussed.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Meet regularly with the faculty and students on grading, course content and other matters as needed; assist in the evaluation of student work, using criteria established by the supervising faculty; work with faculty and other academic staff in support of the University’s educational goals and objectives; participate in the provision of a safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities.

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:Teaching Assistants are hired annually on a per-course basis with fixed-term annual contracts renewable to a maximum of 3 years.

- One cannot hold both a Teaching Assistant and Faculty Appointment within the same semester.

**HOURS OF WORK**:
Hours per week are based on enrollment.

**COMPENSATION**:
$29.23 per hour, 6% in lieu of benefits, and vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
