The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.

The BioXAS Spectroscopy Beamlines includes two High-Sensitivity Spectroscopy Beamlines: Main and Side. The beamlines were specially designed to measure the XAS spectra of transition elements in bulk Biological samples with very diluted concentrations. HXMA (Hard X-ray Micro-Analysis Beamline) can be used to study the elemental local structure environment of materials in-situ and ex-situ, accommodating bulk and thin film samples.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients, and CLS staff. Assists with the following functions:

- Beamline and endstation setup.
- Assists with sample preparation and trains users on how to operate beamline.
- User support beyond normal working hours in accordance with established CLS procedures.
- Measurements and data analysis.
- Prepares beamline documentation and operational manuals ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
- Participate in the development of the XAS data acquisition and analysis of software.
- Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective manner.
- Analyses and solves beamline or technical problems and develops recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems.
- Will aid the Beamline Scientists in beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Develops technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.

**Qualifications**:

- A relevant Master’s degree or Ph.D. in the natural sciences.
- A minimum of 2 years directly related experience in XAS at a synchrotron or scientific laboratory with an undergraduate degree, a minimum 2 years of directly related experience with a Master’s degree, or a minimum one year related experience with a recently completed relevant Ph.D.
- Experience in research techniques such as X-ray diffraction or x-ray spectroscopy together with related data analysis and interpretation is an asset
- Experience with advanced beamline instrumentation (detectors, cryostats, in-situ cells, etc.) would be considered an asset.
- Basic programming skills in python or C++ are required
