**Job Purpose**
The Journeyman/woman Power Line Technician performs the construction, operation, maintenance, modification, and servicing of electrical distribution installations, including overhead, underground and distribution substations.
**Communication and Leadership**
- When required help the Construction Work Leader plan jobs and cover vacation time.
- Work with and help train apprentices
- Have good commination skills to be able to work in a team environment.
- Act as a Crew Lead when organizing a crew to restore power.
**Duties**
Construction, Operation and System Maintenance
- Change old framing of structures to today’s construction standards
- Contact other utilities about construction in the vicinity of their equipment or property
- Maintain detailed list of all material used on the job for job costing purposes
- Help Construction Work Leader complete jobs to ensure maximum amount of work can be completed on outages
- Investigate trouble with the operation of distribution equipment and repair as required
- Test and replace damaged equipment or apparatus that cannot be repaired on-site
- Must participate in Corporate Safety Program, including but not limited to: completing safe work plans, completing log books, following work alone procedure, and following safe work practices and safe job procedures
- Must be available for on call rotation
Member and Third-Party Relations
- Contact members and electricians to advise them of electrical concerns on the member’s service.
- Member service - exceeding member expectations in the areas of complaints and inquiries
**Review and Approval of Work**
This position reports to the Construction Crew Leader
**Job Requirements and Qualifications**
- Journeyman/woman Power Lineperson Certificate (Red Seal)
- Valid class 3 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract and a Q air endorsement
- First Aid and CPR Certification, WHIMIS
- Understanding of the requirements of the Electrical Utility Code pertinent to the field of power line construction
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of heavy equipment
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade
- Capable of performing field repairs
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment testing of the physical requirements of the position
**Education and Experience**
- Previous experience in rural power distribution system operations an asset
