**This is NOT an agency. I am an individual seeking a personal support worker as soon as possible to join my team of ~7 staff. I am a 36 year old queer, trans, power wheelchair user with a g-tube who lives independently.**

**No experience or certifications in the field are required, but Applications without responses to all the Questions through Indeed will NOT be accepted.**

**Looking for someone who can fill 2 morning shifts on a regular basis, (Saturday and one of Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) starting training as soon as possible and shifts in October.**
**Shifts are typically 8:30 to 2:30 on weekdays (unless I have an appointment) or 9 am to 3 pm on weekends.**

**Availability to stay late for shifts, fill in for evening, or do multi day and overnight trips is an asset. Evening shifts are typically 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm, occasionally 3 pm - 10:30 pm.**

**MUST BE CURRENTLY LOCATED IN HALIFAX/ HRM**

**Job location: South End Halifax**

- **Description**_

This position is a support role for me (Andrew, the employer) to go about my daily life as a disabled person. It is important that the person in this role sees themselves as taking on a supportive, client-centered approach, (taking my lead) rather than “care-giving” and has a willingness to learn. No experience in personal support work required. On-the-job training will be provided by the employer.

This position is great for people who can work somewhat flex hours, enjoy working one-on-one, and want to be a part of building a culture of community and inclusion for people with disabilities.

**Location**: Green St, South end Halifax (by the queen street sobeys)

**Responsibilities**:

- Tube feeding preparation and supporting with in cooking and baking (gluten and dairy free). _This is one of my passions and will include helping with a food blog_
- Accompaniment on trips outside the home for appointments and errands (i.e. grocery shopping) by carshare or access-a-bus. _Want to go to movies, shows, the beach, parks, etc while you work?_
- General house cleaning, organization, and laundry. _Do you notice and take initiative to keep spaces clean?_
- Support with positioning, transfers, physio exercises and stretching.
- Providing assistance preparing for the day and nighttime with bathing, dressing, and personal grooming. _If you've done it for yourself, that's experience_
- Administrative support
- Assisting with medication management (including crushing tablets and administering through a g tube, and also preparing medicinal marijuana for vaporizing)

**Requirements**:

- Comfortable with providing personal care, food preparation and household tasks
- Capable of light lifting (ex. laundry and groceries.)
- Valid first aid and CPR
- Up to date vaccinations
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check upon hiring
- Able to understand verbal and written communications
- Organized with strong time-management skills
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual
- Open to feedback and working collaboratively
- Able to balance priorities and work independently
- Positive and easy-going, with a non-institutional attitude

- Open to unique job-related tasks and situations
- Adaptable and able to remain calm in new situations
- Will take pride in maintaining the environment to the standard of the client

**Assets**:

- Experience with disability community
- Experience with queer and trans community
- Comfortable cooking gluten-free and dairy-free
- Experience or familiarity with feeding tubes, catheters, and medications.
- Has a passion for creating systems of organization
- Open to travel and overnight shifts for trips out of the city or province. These are rare, but they do come up. If they do happen, staff do not need to be vigilantly awake but a light sleeper.
- Basic knowledge of household maintenance skills (such as sewing or putting up a shelf)
- Familiar with medicinal marijuana and vaping
- Has a driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable access to transportation
