**GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION**

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance in approximately 12 blocks of the Downtown Core of Orillia on Saturday and Sunday or approximately 10 hours.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Perform routine street maintenance duties; operate construction and maintenance equipment as needed.

2. Clean sidewalks of debris i.e. trash, recycling, excrement, cigarette butts and packages, general trash.

3. Waste bins are maintained and emptied if they are full.

4. Assist with DOMB events
- i.e. Running power to identified areas, assisting with closures, event setup etc.

5. Set up/take down traffic safety devices such as cones, signs and barricades as necessary. This duty is performed as needed

6. Seasonal work:

- clear snow off seating benches, around fire hydrants.
- clear access paths from street to sidewalk at various locations within the downtown core.
- Sand removal from sidewalks, sweep to curb and gutter for city pickup by street sweeper.

7. Clean sidewalks with equipment provided.

8. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.

9. Ability to work with limited supervision and work well with the public.

10. Good attendance is required.

11. Works in a manner safe to the individual and other people; follows safety rules and safe work practices; uses safety equipment as required.

12. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

**DECISION MAKING**

Trouble shooting, especially during special events but is ongoing with the reporting of any potential problems to public works, bylaw, city electricians etc.

**PUBLIC CONTACT**

Occasional routine contacts with persons outside the organization.

**USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS**

Regular use of maintenance equipment, such as sidewalk snowplows, leaf blower, ladders, trimmers, and any other landscaping/removal equipment.

Regular use of DOMB pickup truck.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

Outside working environment. Designated office space.

**ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS**

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving

mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions.

- Uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment
- Proper safety precautions related to all work performed

**Ability to**:

- Perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities
- Perform difficult manual labor tasks including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending and

twisting
- Operate/learn to operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with merchants

**Experience**:
No experience is required

**Education**:
High school diploma or equivalent

**License or Certificate**:
Valid Drivers License

**Required Documents**:
Criminal Background Check will be required prior to signing Employment Offer.
