**Job Location**: Academic Services 345 Livingstone St. East Barrie. Requires travel to any Elementary and Secondary Schools within the board

**Position Type / Hours**:Full-time Permanent. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly, plus overtime as required.

**Annual Compensation**:$59, 493 to $74, 604 (Central Staff Grid Level C) commensurate with education, skills and experience.

This position represents SMCDSB’s commitment to addressing inequities rooted in historic and lingering injustices and will report to the Superintendent responsible for First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education K-12.

SMCDSB is committed to building on the award-winning First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education program with the hiring of a Graduation Coach. This new position will provide culturally appropriate support as a part of a team-based and integrated approach. This service will further support student retention, success strategies, transitions, graduation, post-secondary and various pathways toward educational, career and life goals.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Indigenous Studies, Humanities, Social Sciences, Social Services,
- Counselling, or Psychology with a minimum of five years work experience
- Demonstrated experience working with local First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities and youth
- A good understanding of local First Nation, Métis and Inuit culture, history, language and worldviews
- Understanding of historic challenges in the education sector, and the ability to foster a solution-focused and trauma-informed approach
- Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and intersectionality of protected grounds
- Working knowledge of culturally responsive strategies and practices in fostering student well-being and Achievement
- Ability to plan, develop, implement, track and report on the effectiveness of strategies
- Experience in fostering engagement and empowerment for First Nation, Métis and Inuit youth
- Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and with mínimal supervision in support of transitions, post-secondary, and pathways
- An understanding of internal and external supports (including local, provincial and federal programs and services)
- Understanding confidentiality and maintenance of student information as per board policy and legislated requirements
- Understanding of SMCDSB policies, procedures, protocols and Ministry of Education legislation
- Familiarity with SMCDSB “Making Good Tracks” and Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action applicable to education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience as part of an interdisciplinary team (ie: educators, principals, managers, support staff and community agency personnel)
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, Brightspace, assistive learning devices and student information systems
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
