**About Us**

Women’s Interval Home is a non-profit charitable organization which provides emergency shelter and counselling services to women who have experienced abuse and their children in Sarnia-Lambton. We provide 24-hour emergency and short-term residential shelter, crisis support, individual and group counselling, transitional services, and child witness counselling services. We strive to end the cycle of violence against women in our society by working in collaboration with local partners and community members.

**About the Role**
- As a Domestic Violence Counsellor, you will work with women and children who have experienced abuse.
- You will complete assessments, answer the crisis line, respond to walk-ins, provide crisis support, and offer individual and group counselling to those staying in the residential shelter.
- You will also support women to work towards achieving their goals during their shelter stay, complete safety planning, offer supportive counselling sessions, and facilitate discharge planning.
- You will share responsibility with other staff for the daily operations of the shelter, including the care and upkeep of the facility; and promote practices and conditions that ensure the safety and health of clients and staff.
- You will also expand your knowledge through various training initiatives.

**About You**
To be hired into this role, you must have:

- A post-secondary degree or diploma (e.g., SSW/BA/BSW).
- Proven ability to intervene with women individually or in groups.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the impact of trauma on women and children, separation/loss, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, debriefing, child abuse, and experience working with same.
- Demonstrated ability to assess risk, de-escalate crisis situations, develop rapport with clients, and connect with community partners.
- Ability to empathize with clients who have been victimized; and the ability to advocate on their behalf.
- Experience working with children, and knowledge of the effects of family violence on children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, with staff, volunteers, and students.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR, crisis intervention, suicide intervention.
