**Overview**:
Reporting to the Manager, Environment, the Environmental Coordinator 2 (EC2) is responsible for implementing best practices in compliance with environmental legislation and City adopted strategies (e.g. Ecological Network Management Strategy). The EC2 maintains effective working relationships with internal departments, stakeholders and residents. The EC2 would interpret and understand how key legislative requirements interact with city operations, initiatives and strategies and through building relationships, developing synergies and funding opportunities. The incumbent would have expertise in environmental best practices and of federal and provincial environmental legislation and laws and their relationship with municipal services, including relevant regulations and their applicability to the City.

**Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Recommending and establishing service standards and/or performance criteria through maintaining service excellence, monitoring for compliance and streamlining redundant operational procedures.
- Recommending, developing and implementing best practices and data collection techniques to ensure relevant City strategies, plans, and bylaws are maintained.
- Preparing reports, memorandum and correspondence to support internal and external communications for the Manager’s review.
- Establishing collaborative working relations with other City departments, senior governments and the Richmond community, including participating in environmental working groups for environmental assessments.
- Updating and developing environmental policy initiatives as required.
- Responsibility for leading procurement efforts for external consultants, assessing and evaluating capital project budgets and managing capital budget annually under supervision from the Manager.
- Determining capital plan submissions and supporting the procurement process by developing scope, budgets and schedules, ensuring procedures are in place to maintain scope of work against regulatory requirements.
- Recommending and formalizing review procedures for managing contracts and/or capital projects related to pest and invasive species management, environmental enhancement and pollution prevention projects.
- Assessing the complex environmental situations and regulatory updates to determine possible impacts to City operations, and coordinating and preparing internal and external correspondence.
- Other duties as required.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Extensive knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation, industry best practices, creative outreach and stewardship initiatives.
- Strategic thinking and creative problem solving, with the ability to effectively navigate complex situations and accomplish goals.
- Ability to effectively negotiate challenging issues with developers while advancing a wide range of environmental projects, including strategies, plans, policies, bylaws and implementation programs.
- Ability to understand, advise and evaluate environmental legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a group to accomplish tasks and maintain to corporate compliance.
- Ability to focus on details, while maintaining a balanced high-level view of a project or initiative.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with advanced presentation skills, including demonstrated ability to translate technical information into material that can be easily understood by a broad audience.
- Skilled in report writing, critical thinking as well as stakeholder and senior government engagement.
- Highly organized to lead of all aspects of small to complex projects and initiatives with ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
A Bachelor’s degree in a Environmental Management or a related discipline, as well as a minimum of 5 years related experience in environmental sustainability management and research.

Work is performed in an office environment.
